Family Inquirer
Week of 2/15/21
Greetings ICEF Innovation Families,
We hope that everyone had a great week!
Attendance Matters! Please make sure your children are in attendance every week. We are noticing that absences are high on Fridays, so we have put a fun surprise in place for students who attend their virtual classes on Fridays. Make sure your child is there. You don't want them to miss out.
Be sure to read the Inquirer in its entirety. If you have any questions, please reach out to the main office.
Have an AMAZING week!

ICEF Innovation Staff Spotlight
Kimiko Mosley, Intervention Specialist
My passion is advocating for students. I have been in Special Education for 25 years. I LOVE working with all students and interacting with families. Anyone who knows me, knows that my daughters are my world. COVID has allowed me to spend more quality time with them and build an even stronger bond. Many people also know that I LOVE to cook, especially crockpot meals. I have recently started making different Asian recipes. Since COVID has forced me to teach virtually, I have learned many new and creative ways to help my students learn. I miss seeing all our students smiling faces, talking with parents and working with my wonderful coworkers. I can't wait until the day that I can see you all again.

Attendance Matters!
Perfect Attendance Pizza Winner
Hello families, We have noticed that the attendance on Fridays is low and we would like to change that. Students who attend class will enjoy a VIRTUAL RECESS with their class every Friday. Doesn't that sound fun?
Academics
Lexia & Achieve 3000: (ICEF Core Values of COMMUNITY, EQUITY, and GROWTH)
Students should logon to Lexia (TK-3rd and some 4th and 5th graders), and Achieve 3000 (4th and 5th only) daily. These programs allow students to practice reading and reading comprehension, improving on their skills and being exposed to a variety of different texts to include fiction and non fiction. Make it a habit to ask your children if they are using these programs. You can also see how they are progressing by looking at their accounts or reaching out to their classroom teacher to get a comprehensive report.
Live P.E. Session: (ICEF Core Values of COMMUNITY, EQUITY, and GROWTH)
The COVID 15 is real. For some it is the COVID 20 or 30. ICEF has an answer for you. Students have asynchronous P.E. assignments they can do daily, but on Fridays there is a live session they can join (and so can you)!
ICEF's weekly Fun Friday Fitness (Brain Booster!) is every Friday from 3.15-3.45pm! The zoom link is below and can also be found in your child's teacher's Google Classroom. We encourage ALL students to attend and move every week.

SBAC Parent Post
Some of our parents asked about information on SBAC during this past Evening Chat with the Principal. This link (English/Spanish-page 2) gives you a brief look at what the SBAC looks like. You can always visit the CAASPP website and find sample questions and practice tests your child can take.
We will continue this section, for our 3rd-5th grade families though May, after testing is complete. Feel free to reach out to Mrs. Jundef (sjundef@icefps.org), Mr. Rodriguez (margarito.rodriguez@icefps.org), Ms. Clark (rclark@icefps.org), or Ms. McGee (lmcgee@icefps.org) with any SBAC related questions.
We are here for you!

The default to our Parent Square messages is English, however, if your family has listed Spanish as their home language, your Parent Square message come to you in Spanish. There may be a time when you would like to view the Parent Square message in a different language (to share with a friend or family member). If so, please see the steps below that guides families on how to change from English to Spanish, when you receive the message on your cell phone. The same can be done from Spanish to English. On your computer, you can simply open the link and look at the top of the screen, in between the search bar and the bell symbol.

There are some wonderful things happening with our Embrace the Mind program. We invite all family members to attend!
Workshops coming soon!
English Language Learner (ELL) Chronicles!
In this section we will highlight the language and culture of our English Language Learners and their families. I would love to share your stories with the school community. Feel free to email stories, pictures, or examples of how you see the language and culture of our ELLs and their families incorporated in the learning environment.
An ELL Chronicle from Mrs. Twait & Ms. Usafi!
"Gabriela tested out! I still notice that a lot of the time she doesn’t know the words. She can decode it, but does not know the meaning. She is doing really well we gave her two tiered words and allowed her to share the words and meanings with the class." -Twait
"EL students seem to be less fearful. Nicole loves to count and she is our master counter. We had a problem with Bryan’s attendance and behavior, but he’s changed. Bryan recently showed he can speak English." -Usafi
