The Bear Necessities

March 23th, 2018

Running in so many directions

I just want to say it out loud....this time of year is a little nutty...here is why and it's OK!!

1)We are coming up on Parent Teacher Conferences and planning for the last experiences you get to have with these little ones.

2)We are working on ESY and making sure all services and paperwork are ready to go.

3)We are working on next year...yes heavily

There is a reason for the crazy feeling your brain may occasionally have, give yourself a little break, take a few deep breaths and know that it ALWAYS feels this way and we ALWAYS rock our way through it!!

Big picture

Next Year plans:

We are not starting school until August 20th for GBEEC students

We are attending 4 half days like normal

MLE start time has moved up 15 minutes

Live to Bless....Greenwood Fellowship Church

Tracy Halphin learned of a "Live to Bless" opportunity, so she wrote about our building and asked for helping hands for our yard. May 5th Greenwood Fellowship Church will be blessing Great Beginnings with a team of helping hands to do some gardening outside of our school. We are THRILLED to have this help, as our one garden fairy can only do so much. They will be trimming bushes, planting flowers, pulling weeds and have a small amount of money to purchase other items for us (rock, bushes). If you or the garden fairy have an idea of something that we really need to work on, please let myself and Tracy Halphin know.

Any THANK YOU cards from students would be great!!

Conscious Discipline Update:

We are still on for our training next Thursday afternoon for PAT and Friday morning for EC. The parent event is Thursday night and all are welcome to attend and bring family/friends.

Jill Molli's daughter is now having a medical procedure next week, so we will be hosting Velda McKenzie as our Conscious Discipline speaker.

Not Just Cute: Amanda Morgan.....more from her presentation at CYY

She mentioned several good reads in her presentation, I thought I would share them with you. The one below is OLD by research standards, published in 2010, but you might find yourself say "YES" out loud as you read!! WE do GOOD things...thanks for keeping it Developmentally Appropriate!!

The "Learning VS Training" portion is one that she spoke of at conference, give it a bit of thought.

What Is In My Pocket?

While doing a NEE, I had the joy of watching highly engaged kids THINK (second day they had done this activity). Darci did the song, but on this second day, she had a few new items to add to the pocket....the kids did a fantastic job of being critical thinkers. A child might make a guess, the class would then vote with a thumb up or down to show their vote....it was a total engagement of all 17 students. They had to clap their knees and keep the beat during the singing of the song between each guess....we know keeping a beat is a brain building activity!! Very appropriate and so much THINKING from these little ones!!
