SCHOOL VALUE THIS TERM: 'TO BE INCLUSIVE'
These are for our Vogeltown learners to be:
Inclusive (Whakaru), Respectful (Whakaute), Original (Tipu), Courageous (Kaha) and Kind (Atawhai).
These values were chosen by the staff, learners and community of Vogeltown School in 2019.
This term we are focusing on being 'Kind'.
To be 'inclusive' and welcoming to all our new Vogeltown learners is the 'Vogeltown Way'. We show 'inclusiveness' as part of our school vision of Manaaki Tangata - caring for the people.
Being a 'Vogeltowner' is being a good citizen of our community - someone who is inclusive, respectful, original, courageous and kind.
SCHOOL GOAL: 'TO BE INCLUSIVE'
WHAT: WELCOME BACK TO 2022 – To treat everyone the same, our VS family! Be INCLUSIVE!
WHY:
We are a welcoming school and we want all learners and whanau to feel safe and happy here
Being an ‘inclusive’ learner you show the school vision of ‘Caring of the people’ - Manāki tangata
Vogeltown is one big ‘whanau’ and we welcome & involve all people to our family – being ‘inclusive’
HOW:
By being a ‘Vogeltowner’ you show ‘inclusiveness’ by involving everyone - regardless of creed, race or gender.
By involving anyone in your group - whether it be a game, a class task, sitting together at lunch
By supporting other people and accepting everyone has differences - being collaborative
By being a positive Vogeltown citizen - keeping a positive attitude when working with others
SIGNS OF SUCCESS:
You can work collaboratively and positively with other people
You are welcoming and accept people into your game, group or task
You can support others - making sure everyone feels included in your group, class and school
You are a ‘Vogeltowner’ showing inclusiveness and Manāki tangata
You have respect for the feelings and well being of others
TE REO FOCUS FOR THE WEEK
KIA ORA VS WHANAU, FROM MR O
What a crazy term it has been! When I look back over the beginning of the year - it seems a lifetime ago that we met as a whole staff for Teacher Only Day in January, now here we are in April!
We have gone form having no covid cases on Feb 1st to over 100 by the end of the term. We have become experts with RATS, PCR's, Viral loads, isolating rules, mask wearing, sanitiser and adapting to our new normal.
This term has had it s challenges, but I want to acknowledge the Vogeltown team and Vogeltown learners who have shown amazing resilience throughout the term. It has been humbling to see the staff and kids just get on with school - stay engaged and keep learning while covid has continued around us. We are proud that we have not had to close closes or mix the rooms up too much over this term.
We have had a very busy term of learning - the classroom learning and work completed has been a highlight. The classrooms look amazing and the amount of work completed over this term has been amazing. There has been a real focus on our local curriculum with the stories of the Te Henui and the Huatoki rivers, the stories of our carvings and the history of the school a highlight!
We had a wonderful ANZAC assembly today for the senior school. The respect shown by our tamariki was amazing. Big thanks to our class reps for running this assembly. The video link is below.
We are looking forward to term 2 being a lot more 'normal' than this term was. I know we have said this before, however I believe the recent changes are a positive indication for us.
Our teams will be looking at the followng topics in Term 2:
Paetoki team - Natural disasters and Matariki
Huatoki team - Antarctic science and Matarki
Taranaki team - Social sciences and Life Ed
We also the Life education truck here in term 2, so this will become part of our topics.
Have a great two week break whanau, we thank all our familes for the continued support over these 'trying times'. Please remember HE WAKA EKE NOA - WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER.
Aroha nui, Mr O
WHANAU DRESS UP DAY
A big thanks for the non perishable items - we were blown away by the donations! The food-bank will be amazed as well!
Thanks whanau - Manaaki tanagata, Care for the people!
COMMUNITY SURVEY - VOGELTOWN SCHOOL SATISFACTION
WELCOME TO VOGELTOWN SCHOOL!
This week we welcome:
Otinga Repia in to Rm 6
Haere Mai, Haere mai! We know you will enjoy your time with us!
COVID-19 UPDATE AT VOGELTOWN SCHOOL - WEEK 11
It is great to see the rates of Covid cases at Vogeltown slow down the last 2 weeks. We know that a third of our learners and community have experienced covid and we know that all of our learners have recovered! This was our biggest concern and is great to see that it has been mostly a mild illness for many.
As such, and in line with the governments recent announcement to move to 'orange' setting, we have made some changes to our safety plan for the start of Term 2. We feel we can make these changes safely and with optimistic caution.
Changes to our school safety plan for Term 2:
- Parents/Caregivers welcome on site - mornings and night. However, please be aware of classes working right up to 3pm.
- We will not be asking parents/caregivers to wear masks on site (outside) however if visiting a classroom (inside), then please wear one.
- Masks will be 'encouraged' in our classes of Years 4 and above.
- We will not be having staggered break times at the senior side. The Huatoki and Paetoki teams will be have the same break times.
- All classes and both school sites will finish at 3pm on both school sites - no more 2.45pm finish.
- All drinking fountains will be open on both school sites.
- Monitor your child’s health very carefully, and keep them home if they show any symptoms.
- Isolate for 7 days if there is a COVID case in your household.
For more detailed information, please refer to:
https://covid19.govt.nz/.../changes-to-the-traffic-light.../
We are still expecting cases to crop up at Vogeltown in term 2, however it will not be as busy as Term 1 became. We will continue to communicate with our families and give you weekly updates. Thanks to the families who are letting us know if they need to isolate or if they are keeping their child home. Please can we ask that you let the school office know as well as the classroom teacher - either by email, Skool Loop, text or call. Our school mobile number is 021 753 680.
