Class News 3 - 18 - 2016
We will be dying eggs in the traditional Amana way on Wednesday! We need several dozen eggs to be brought in. They need to be white and raw. Please bring in a dozen by Tuesday. THANKS!
What a busy week! We had the Arts and Science Night showcasing our learning as well as an educational video of "Growing Up". This might be a great follow-up discussion at home. This week was not all just business. Today we got to see a Science Illusionist in the morning. Ask your student what his/her favorite trick was that was performed. Our band was extraordinary on Tuesday also! Way to show your greatness 5th grade!
Jump Rope for Heart money is due no later than Tuesday if you did not turn it in this week. Be sure to bring your jumping shoes on Tuesday for PE.
Our trip to the Capitol and the Museum have been set for Friday, April 15th. We will leave at around 8:30am. This day all students will need to have a sack lunch. If you need to buy one from the cafeteria, please let us know by April 1st. Also we will not be getting back from the trip until about 4:30pm. Information was passed out at PLP's. Let us know if you need another copy.
In social studies, we have taken our eyes into the lives of the first American settlements from England. In reading, we read So Far from the Sea, which had more than one setting. Our focus this week is how a common event can influence different characters. Next week we will start writing our own persuasive articles! In math, we are knee deep in adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions with unlike denominators. Students can get on IXL L.8 and L.10 to help solidify their learning!
Learning Goals:
Social Studies: I can understand why people travelled from England to start a new colony in America. We will focus on the New England, Middle and Southern Colonies.
Reading: I can make predictions and compare/contrast historical fiction. I can also understand how one event can impact two or more characters differently.
Writing: I can brainstorm things that bug me and want to do something to persuade. I can also understand homophones and which one is appropriate to use when.
