Memorial Day - Monday, May 29th - No School
CONGRATULATIONS MR. BAUMGART!
Mr. Baumgart has been invited to be the Tenor Coach for the 2017 Middle Level State Honors Choir. This is a high honor and is based on his exemplary teaching abilities, performing talents and his commitment to young musicians. He will be working with students from all over the state of Wisconsin over the next couple of years at different state conferences. We are so proud of him for this achievement and excited that he continues to work with our students as well as these other fine musicians.
PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Last week our school was shocked by the loss of Mrs. Seizyk-Trudell. We are all in the process of healing. I'd like to thank all of the staff at our school for their professionalism and dedication to our kids. They were there for each and every student no matter what was needed. As we continue to heal I remind you that we all grieve in different manners and at different paces. Be patient and aware of your child's needs. Let school know if there is anything we can do to assist you or your child.
State testing is wrapping up with some make-up tests for students that missed individual tests. The kids did an awesome job doing their best work and trying to work out each and every problem. We appreciate your support. Families with students in grades 3-5 will receive notification of how well your child did. A report will be sent to the school from the state and we will send home a copy to share with you.
Please contact me with any questions or concerns you have about your child or school.
Mrs. Michalski

Contact Laurie Kluth @ 826-7476

Tuesday, April 25, 2017
4:00-7:30 PM
Washington Middle School invites you to attend the
George Washington Symposium
Even though George Washington’s name and reputation are well-known, there are many aspects of his greatness about which most people are unaware, and myths surrounding George Washington abound. Washington Middle School students will present research projects, displays and demonstrations to introduce you to the multi-dimensional, real-life man behind those myths. In addition, you will be able to view “The Many Faces of George Washington”—a traveling panel exhibition. This exhibit explores the breadth of Washington's leadership abilities and illuminates not only Washington's well-known achievements, but also lesser-known and surprising elements of his remarkable career.

Medications:
Do you have medications at home that you no longer need? You can now drop off these medications at the Oconto Falls Police Department inside Oconto Falls City Hall Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Do not drop sharps/needles/syringes in any of the medication drop boxes; instead take them to HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital. Accepted items: pills and liquids for people and pets from households. These items are NOT accepted: Illegal drugs; sharps, needles or syringes; mercury; items from businesses. The medication drop box offers a safe way to get rid of unused medications. Flushing unused medications causes the chemicals from medications to get into our ground water. Simply throwing unused medications in the trash could lead to accidental poisoning because children and/or pets have easy access to them. Throwing them in the trash can also mean that they could be stolen or abused. For more information, please call Oconto Falls Police Department at 920-846-4500 or Oconto County Public Health at 920-834-7000.
GRAMMY AWARD-WINNING PIANIST GEORGE WINSTON PERFORMS IN OCONTO FALLS
The Oconto Falls Friends of the Arts are proud to present grammy award-winning pianist GEORGE WINSTON as part of their 2016-2017 Fine Arts Series on Saturday, April 29 at 7:00 p.m. in the Falls Area Performing Art Center.
George Winston grew up mainly in Montana, and also spent his later formative years in Mississippi and Florida. During this time, his favorite music was instrumental rock and instrumental R&B, including Floyd Cramer, the Ventures, Booker T & The MG's, Jimmy Smith, and many more. Inspired by R&B, jazz, Blues and rock (especially the Doors), George began playing organ in 1967. In 1971 he switched to the acoustic piano after hearing recordings from the 1920s and the 1930s by the legendary stride pianists Thomas "Fats" Waller and the late Teddy Wilson. In addition to working on stride piano, he also at this time came up with this own style of melodic instrumental music on solo piano, called folk piano. In 1972, he recorded his first solo piano album, BALLADS AND BLUES 1972, for the late guitarist John Fahey's Takoma label.
Since 1980 George has released ten other solo piano albums: AUTUMN (1980), WINTER INTO SPRING (1982), DECEMBER (1982), SUMMER (1991), FOREST (1994), LINUS & LUCY - THE MUSIC OF VINCE GUARALDI (1996), which features compositions by the late jazz pianist, including Cast Your Fate to the Wind and pieces from the Peanuts' TV specials; PLAINS (1999), which was inspired by his Eastern Montana upbringing, NIGHT DIVIDES THE DAY - THE MUSIC OF THE DOORS (2002), and MONTANA - A LOVE STORY (2004) and GULF COAST BLUES & IMPRESSIONS - A HURRICANE RELIEF BENEFIT (2006).
Also, in 2001 George released REMEMBRANCE - A MEMORIAL BENEFIT, a six song CD of piano, guitar and harmonica solos, to benefit those affected by 9/11. He has also worked with the late George Levenson of Informed Democracy on three projects: a solo guitar soundtrack for SADAKO AND THE THOUSAND PAPER CRANES, and soundtracks of piano, guitar and, harmonica solos for PUMPKIN CIRCLE, and BREAD COMES TO LIFE. In 1984 he also did the solo piano soundtrack for the children's story THE VELVETEEN RABBIT for Rabbit Ears Productions.
His solo piano release LOVE WILL COME - THE MUSIC OF VINCE GUARALDI, VOL. 2 (released 2/2/10), features compositions by the late jazz pianist, including pieces from the Peanuts' TV specials. His latest album SPRING CAROUSEL-A CANCER RESEARCH BENEFIT was just released in 2016.
Tickets are $40 and available online at www.ocontofallsfriendsofthearts.com All seats are reserved. A special Steinway presentation by performance sponsors Neva Hodge Lemorande and Ursula Rathie will take place at6:30 p.m.
Coupons for Military Families
Did you know that the Abrams Unit 523 collects manufacturer coupons for our Military families?
Military families stationed overseas can use manufacturer coupons up to 6 MONTHS after their expiration date. Our members collect and clip the coupons out of the Sunday newspapers. The Abrams Elementary School students can really make a difference by collecting these coupons and bring them to school. In general, our military families can only use regular manufacturer's coupons such as from newspaper inserts, coupon mailings, store displays and coupons you may receive directly from the manufacturer. BOGO coupons are also acceptable. They cannot use "In Store Only" coupons. Note: Food, baby, and pet coupons are the most requested coupons and usually needed more than non-food. (This is likely due to the abundance of non-food coupons available to everyone in general.) There is a drop off box at the Abrams Elementary school office. By collecting these coupons it helps save money for our military families!
For more information feel free to contact Abrams American Legion Auxiliary Unit 523 President Ann Lotter at 920-373-5339. Thanks for helping our Military Families.
