Fantastic Finds at FHES
Being intentional everyday
Collaborative Practices
Each week the instructional team will be highlighting great things we're seeing at Forest Hills. When you see something you would like to know more about and implement in your classroom please collaborate with that teacher. If you would like to see this practice in action, the instructional team will be glad to help you schedule an observation with that classroom.
Engagement Everyday
Our focus for the year is student engagement. These are some engagement strategies we're seeing at Forest Hills.
- Learning targets
- Think time I & II
- Quality questioning
- Formative assessment
Some of our fantastic teachers:
Mrs. Thompson's Class
Students met their learning target of retelling events of a story by ordering pictures in their journal.
Ms. Prince's Class
Students are engaged in tracking words with their "eye sticks" during small group instruction.
Mrs. Lane's Class
Students were engaged in thinking using Think Time I & II.
Mrs. Brewer's Class
Students are self assessing.
Mrs. Sullivan's Class
Students are discussing shared writing journals in small groups.
Mr. McKinnon's Class
Students summarize on an anchor chart.
Tools for engagement
Each week the instructional team will be giving out one gift for teachers to use in the classroom to foster engagement.
This week one of the lucky winners is Mrs. Brewer! She won the self-assessment anchor chart at our faculty meeting and is using it to formatively assess students in seeing where they are in meeting their learning target.
