Updates from Mrs. Froning

September 4, 2021

Oakley Park Hours: 8:55 am - 4:00 pm Monday-Friday

Thank you for attending Curriculum Night!

It was wonderful to see so many families participate in the various Curriculum Nights! We truly appreciate that so many of our famlies took the time to attend this VERY important night.

As we settle into the year, open and on going communication between home and school is so VERY important! Thank you for prioritizing emails/newsletters from your childs' teacher as well as my weekly Update newsletters. (A complete list of staff emails can be found on our Oakley Park webpage under the "Our Staff" tab.)

I hope the long weekend is off to a great start and we look forward to seeing our Owls back at school Wednesday, September 8th!

We understand that new routines are being established, especially for our newest Owls. Thank you in advance for your help with ensuring our dismissal is able to run smoothly and safely!

Staggered Dimssal times:

3:55 pm begin calling Owl Pick Up numbers

3:56 pm Walkers and Prime time

3:57 pm begin calling student names (based on parent sign out)

3:58 pm begin calling bus numbers

4:07 Buses depart from Oakley Park

*Owl Pick Up numbers and student names will continue to be called throughout the dismissal period.

Therapy Dog Update

As I shared in last weeks newsletter our first step towards welcoming a therapy dog is to fundraise $9000.00 to purchase and train the dog.

We are welcoming donations from families and we would love to partner with local businesses too. Beyond the purchasing of the dog, we will look to partner to provide veterinary care, grooming and food! Businesses/families who donate $1000 will have their name/logo on our dogs working vest! A donation of $4500 earn the donor the opportunity to name our dog! All donations will be tax deductible and we will provide a letter for your tax filing purposed. We will be planning some fun ways the kids can help fundraise too!

Donations can be made by check: payable to WLCSD. Soon, famlies can can log into Family Access and make a donation through eFunds. Stay tuned!

Thank you for your support!

COVID Information

If a member of your household tests positive for COVID we strongly recommend a self-quarantine from last date of close contact, however WLCSD is not currently issuing quarantines. Thank you for taking the necessary steps to help ensure the health and safety of our entire learning community.

If a student tests positive for COVID, they will be isolated for a minimum of 10 calendar days based on the recommendations from the OCHD. All families in that classroom will receive a letter regarding the positive case. The letter also reminds recipients to monitor their child's health closely and if he/she begins experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms, stay home, consult your medical provider and get tested for COVID-19.

Daily Health Checks

We continue to urge all families to check your child's health daily and make decisions that will keep our community healthy and safe. Please check for the following symptoms:

  • Fever/Chills
  • Cough
  • Fatigue
  • Headache Sore throat
  • Congestion
  • Runny Nose
  • Nausea or Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Muscle of Body Aches
  • New loss of smell or taste

If your child has any of these symptoms, please err on the side of caution and keep them home until their symptoms subside. We appreciate your partnership as we continue to work together to keep our community healthy and safe! Health and Safe!

Mask Reminder

On August 24, the Oakland County Health Division instituted a mask mandate for our schools and facilities. Due to this OCHD mandate, the following protocols are required:

  • Masks are required in all of our schools and facilities.
  • Masks are required on our buses.
  • Masks are not required outside (ex. recess).
  • Masks are not required while eating or drinking.
  • Mask Breaks: Please note that teachers will take their classes outside for periodic mask breaks throughout the school day.

District Protocols: You can also refer to the district FAQ document for more information.

Water Bottles: Please remember to send your child to school with a reusable, plastic water bottle. Our drinking fountains are closed. Refilling stations are still open.

Medication at School

We realize there are times when our students will need medication administered at school. In order for school personnel to administer medication to a student, the school district’s “Authorization to Administer Medication” form must be completed and on file in the school office. (This form must be completed yearly) You will find the form linked below. All medication (both prescription and over-the-counter) must be in the original containers. Forms and medication can be dropped off at our main office.

Prime Time Care

Registration for Prime Time Care/Teen Club is now open. Due to technical difficulties, registration will NOT currently be online. Please use the link below to access the Prime Time Care webpage. Registration packets are also available in our lobby area.
