Premier's Reading Challenge 2014
Banksmeadow Public School is again participating in the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge. To register your child go to the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge website and log on using their DET username and password. This is the same one they use at school.
On the website you will find information about the challenge including the rules. Please read these for your own information.
PRC books read by and to the children can be included in their personal reading log at the PRC website. Any books we read during library will be sent home at the end of each term via Banksmeadow’s e-News for you to record in your child's personal reading log.
If the children reach the designated target, 30 books for K-2 and 20 books for 3-6, they will receive a certificate at the end of the challenge.
Have fun reading some great books!
New Learning Spaces
ESPSSA Rugby League Trials
On Monday Banksmeadow's Rugby League representatives attended the zone trials to gain a position on the ESPSSA teams to compete at the married trials next Monday. Congratulations to all the boys who participated with enthusiasm and sportsmanship. We wish the following students from Year 6 good luck as they play against Sydney Coastal for a position in the SEPSSA Rugby League team next Monday. In the 11 years team, Blake and in the Open team Cooper M, Zach and Jace.
ESPSSA Zone Swimming Carnival
In rainy and cold conditions, 36 Banksmeadow students participated at the Zone Swimming Carnival last Thursday with some outstanding results. Many students finished with personal best times across a variety of different events with 6 students making finals throughout the day. All students need to be commended for their excellent behaviour, enthusiasm and the sportsmanship they showed towards other competitors.
Congratulations to the following students who have progressed through to the Regional Swimming Carnival to be held on Wednesday 19th March:
Christopher (Year 2) - 8yrs 50m Freestyle
Katarina (Year 6) - 12yrs 50m Freestyle, Snr Backstroke
Caprice (Year 4) - Jnr Breaststroke
NSW Surf Lifesaving State Titles
For some swimmers, the Zone Swimming Carnival was not enough. Seven of our students headed to Umina last weekend to compete in the NSW Surf Life Saving State Titles.
Congratulations to Caprice (Year 4) who was a member of the gold medal winning South Maroubra Under 10 Female Surf Swim Team. In a field of 64 teams, this team finished their season undefeated, having won gold at all seven carnivals they attended this year. This is a fantastic achievement for Caprice and all of the girls involved.
Friday PSSA Sport
Unfortunately due to poor weather, both training and matches were cancelled for the 2nd round of the PSSA summer competition. Just a reminder to all parents to follow our school Twitter feed for all up to date information regarding cancellations (including training) and changes to PSSA events.
