His Life
Thomas Jefferson was the author of the Declaration of Independence and was the third US president. He was also the founder of the University of Virginia.
Born on April 13, 1743 and Died on July 4, 1826 in Virginia
His father was a successful planter and surveyor. His mother was a member of one of Virginia most distinguished families. He was married to Martha Wayles Skelton and had six children with only two surviving to adulthood.
He was elected for president by James Madison, one of his great friends in 1809. He also remained in Monticello for 17 years. He died just hours before John Adams. According to evidence, he was a very optimistic man. He was eighty-three years old on the 15th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
