Joy is our core value for the month of March
We believe that every student is resilient, capable and important. We foster respect for all people and beliefs because we value each other as individuals. We are kind and inclusive because we care about each other. We value joy because it keeps our hearts open and allows us to thrive.
JOY:
We find joy in learning through creativity and challenge.
We find joy in learning and making mistakes with our friends and teachers.

Cheza Nami Aims to promote cultural education and diversity awareness in learning institutions, corporations, and communities that foster a more congenial relationship among its members.
The mission is to preserve and encourage the appreciation of African culture by inspiring and educating the American public about Africa’s extensive and unique attributes, regardless of their heritage of origin.
Cheza Nami believes in a play-based, experiential approach to education and teaches African culture through dance, play, and movement. They use cultural activities such as dance, drumming, imaginative play, and song to provide interactive, educational experiences.
48 Mandarin Immersion Students in Grades 1-8 Participate in the 47th Annual Mandarin Speech Content
On behalf of the MI Advisory Committee, we are pleased to share that 48 students in grades 1-8 in the Mandarin Immersion Program in RCSD participated in the CLTAC 47th Annual Mandarin Speech Contest.
MI students across Grades 1 to 8 worked hard outside the classroom to write, edit, memorize and record their speeches in February, and we had a record number of 48 submissions across the program. This is an incredible team effort on behalf of our teachers, volunteer parent coaches, and families who supported our students in their Mandarin learning journey and I am sure you are all very proud of them!
On April 22, CLTAC will announce in a virtual ceremony the winners, by grade, across ALL eligible schools/programs in California. We expect this to be highly competitive, and we take care to emphasize to students that entering the contest is about the journey of writing and delivering the speech. We will keep you posted on the outcomes.

Save the Date! Africa Walkathon 4/7 9:30-11:30
Next month marks the return of a special Orion tradition of learning about and supporting the Asante Africa Foundation. Asante Africa Foundation is a social impact organization providing academic support, life skills training, livelihood skill development, and opportunity creation. The drive will culminate with a schoolwide walkathon on 4/7, 9:30-11:30. Save the date and time, we will need lots of parent volunteers to support the walkathon! Check out the video from last year!
Yard Duty
We are almost always in need of yard duty help, especially when kindergarten is around! If you ever find yourself with some availability, drop by the school office to get an orange vest to help! Most needed times are 10am for recess and 11-1 for lunch.
