HELPFUL TIPS:

Keep an extra set of clothes in your child's backpack(including socks)! This will help us get kids back to class quickly when "accidents" happen such as soiled pants, food spills, mud puddles, and so on.

'Tis the season for CHAPPED LIPS and DRY HANDS! Please consider sending a tube of lip balm and hand lotion withy your student to use as needed!

Important Attendance Reminders:

Please call or email your child's absence by 9am to atreat@usd497.org or 785-832-5660. Please remember we need a doctor's note if your child is absent three or more consecutive days.

All parents/guardians must come into the school to sign out their child if checking them out during school hours. This was our policy prior to Covid and we are now following this procedure again.

ITS GETTING COLD.....

There are several students arriving to school before 7:45. Students are not allowed inside the building until 7:45. Please do not drop off your children until that time as there is not staff on duty to supervise and students will not be allowed inside the building. Thank you for your cooperation! Students must also be picked up by 3:05 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and, Friday, They must be picked up by 1:35 on Wednesday. There is NO supervision for your child after school is dismissed unless enrolled in Boys & Girls Club.

Progress Reports - December 21st

Help us fill our fridge and stock our shelves!

Change Maker of the Week:

Our goal is for our students to see themselves in our change makers and to also learn that they can do anything they put their mind to. Another goal is for our students to see people who are unfamiliar to them, to grow in empathy, and push for justice for the inequalities that marginalized communities face.

11/29-12/3: Campbell Remess

12/13-12/17: Melati and Isabel Wijsen

PTO Needs YOU!

Deerfield enjoys a strong tradition of an active and robust PTO, but we can’t do it without YOU! PTO is currently in need of volunteers to fill a variety of roles, including heading committees.

As but one example, Deerfield PTO is looking to fill a chairperson spot for Marathon Club. Marathon Club is held on Wednesdays, from 1:45-2:45pm, during the months of September through November and March through May. Prior to Covid, we had a strong Marathon Club committee and high numbers of participants and we'd love to bring this back to Deerfield!

Don’t have the time to tackle Marathon Club? No problem, contact us to find a role that will fit your commitment level. Email email ksdeerfieldpto@gmail.com.

Thank You, Volunteers!

PTO would like to thank Ms. Rabiola and Ms. Hurst for all of their work with the Readathon and Read In! Your commitment supports child literacy AND helped raise money for PTO, which in turn supports Deerfield kids, faculty, and staff.

Thank you also to all of our amazing PTO volunteers! Whether you’re signing up to donate pretzels for a school party to heading up our school-wide book fair, PTO appreciates everything our volunteers do to make Deerfield a great place.

Winter Party!

The winter parties are scheduled for Tuesday, December 20. You should be receiving information from your grade representatives and/or room parents about party supplies and volunteers. If you do not, or if you have any questions, please email ksdeerfieldpto@gmail.com. Party times are as follows:

Kindergarten: 2:00-2:45

1st grade: 1:45-2:45

2nd grade: 1:45-2:45

3rd grade: 10:00-11:00

4th/5th grade: 1:30-2:30

Snowman Wish Lists are now Live

Gift suggestions can include gift cards from their favorite retailers or restaurants, items for their classroom/work area, personal gifts or community appreciation projects. Gift giving will be the week of Dec. 12 – 16 th . Your student can bring their gift to school to deliver to the recipient on any of these days. Emails have been provided if you’d like to send an email gift certificate.

To view and/or select a gift from a list, please access the following google doc:

Mrs. Lansbury is November’s High-5 Winner!

Congratulations to our High-Five November winner, Mrs. Lansbury!

Mrs. Lansbury is a 2nd grade teacher and this is her 5th year at Deerfield (but 19th year teaching). Mrs. Lansbury was nominated by student, Calvin Plante. Calvin thinks Mrs. Lansbury deserves a HUGE high-five because “she is really nice and she’s the best teacher. She is very helpful and teaches us a lot!”

Congratulations Mrs. Lansbury! Thank you for all that you do!

The beautiful flowers were donated by Dillons on Lawrence Avenue. Mrs. Lansbury, Calvin and their class will be treated to a pizza party from Toppers to celebrate!

Thank you to all the students who nominated our amazing Deerfield staff and teachers this month. We will not be selecting a December winner due to the short and busy month. Nominations for January will be accepted until Tuesday, January 17th! Students can fill out a paper form in the library or complete an online submission here: https://forms.gle/K59vX78cMufd1bvc8

Spread Holiday Cheer with the PTO Holiday Bake Shop on Wednesday, December 14!
