Waitomo is a small farming district, located on the West side of the North island of New Zealand. Waitomo is part of the Waikato region which is broken up into other various small regions like Waitomo. The population of Waitomo is very small estimated to be 9,540 with no major cities the population is vastly spread throughout the region. Waitomo is also one of the most recognised tourist destinations internationally giving us many tourist visits each year.
Waitomo being a small region in the west of the north island has a really big reputation. It is world renowned as a great tourist destination with many activities such as Black water rafting, Cave tours, Kiwi House, Native bird reserve and many more thoughrorly enjoyable activities. There is much controversy over what the most visited Attraction in Waitomo is though undoubtedly The centrepiece of Waitomo is The Waitomo glow worm caves, A thrilling chain of caves filled with thousands of glow-worms and larvae that hang eluminating the caves and highlighting the amazing underground stream that visitors are punted across to get to the glow-worm spectacular. overall Waitomo is a first class tourist destination and we kiwi's are so lucky to have such an amazing kiwi wonderland in our backyard

Waitomo Caves

The Main atraction of Waitomo is the Waitomo caves. The caves are filled with a vast multitude of glow worms and their stringy larvae which hangs from the roof of the cave illuminating the cave with an luminous errie glow. One of the most widley reconigsed caves is a cave called the lost world. Tourists must abseil down into the cave where they hang suspended in the air admiring the glow worms and then must be hoisted up by proffesional abseilers.
