The Falcon
Fieldstone Middle School * February 2018
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope that the past month has been a healthy one for your families and that you've been able to avoid the scourge of the many winter ailments circulating. Our students are weathering these cold weeks by staying busy during indoor recess and enjoying the fresh air when we are able to spend time outdoors.
Our advisory focus this month will be on academic integrity, a topic which has become increasingly important with the infusion of technology. Our teachers work tirelessly to create learning experiences for students which allow them to creatively express themselves and synthesize information. In order to prepare them for research throughout their academic careers, the appropriate use of resources is integrated and modeled in every content area.
Please see below for additional topics of interest and the many reasons why it's great to be a Falcon!
As always, if I can be of assistance to you or your family, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
All the best,
Gina McCormack

Health Office Update from Mrs. Halder
If your child will be absent from school, you must call Mrs. Halder, the school nurse, every day in the early morning before school starts. When you call, please include your child’s name and the reason your child is going to be absent. Children should come to school on time, but if your child must be late, call Mrs. Halder and include the reason for the lateness.
In order to protect the health of others in school, students must remain home for 24 hours after a fever or vomiting. If your child is sent home with a fever or because of vomiting, they must stay home for at least the next day.

The girls basketball team displayed a tremendous amount of effort and toughness throughout the entire season and continued to improve each and every game. With several 6th and 7th graders being key contributors, the future looks bright for the Lady Falcons.
Congratulations to the boys basketball team on working very hard this season. The boys were extremely committed and motivated to improve every single day. The boys finished with a record of 3-8 and were lead by 13 eighth graders.

Big - The Musical
A group of Pascack Hills High School students, many of whom are FMS graduates, will be producing our school musical under the direction of Ms. Austin and Ms. McCann.
This group of enthusiastic thespians introduced themselves to students on January 24th during an interactive assembly and held a well-attended interest meeting the following week. Students will have the opportunity to participate in all areas of theater production including singing, dancing, acting, set design, event promotion, and stage crew. Auditions are February 9th immediately after school in the cafeteria. We are all looking forward to seeing the musical Big on May 11th and 12th and so appreciate the commitment of time and talent being provided by all involved.
Principal for the Day!

Hoops For Heart Update from the Physical Education Department
“IT TAKES HEART TO BE A HERO!”
It’s time for Jump Rope For Heart or Hoops For Heart, American Heart Association programs that teach students in 38,000 schools nationwide valuable lessons that will last a lifetime, such as:
YOUR CHILD learns about the importance of taking care of their heart and how it works. Did you know that heart disease is the leading cause of death in America? We can change that — 80 percent of risk factors for heart disease are preventable.
YOUR CHILD learns the importance of helping others through this service learning project.
YOUR CHILD feels good for making a difference in people’s lives! Funds raised support the American Heart Association’s research and education initiatives that save lives in our community.
PLEASE SUPPORT FIELDSTONE MIDDLE SCHOOL AND THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION AS WE HOST OUR ANNUAL JUMP ROPE AND HOOPS FOR HEART EVENT ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 2018.
ALL DONATIONS WILL GO DIRECTLY TO THE AHA, IN SUPPORT OF RESEARCH AND MEDICAL ADVANCES TO HELP FIGHT HEART DISEASE.
