Work Experience Year 10
A BIG well done to all our Year 10 students for taking part in work experience. We have heard the most amazing feedback from employers over the past few days about our young people. Most students have shown maturity, resilience and good work ethic.
We will be putting together a Careers Newsletter highlighting all the amazing placements that the students have been on. If your child has any photographs of their placement which they would not mind sharing, could they please send them to ashea@chelmer.essex.sch.uk and they will feature in the newsletter.
We hope they enjoy a well-deserved half term break, and we will look forward to hearing about their experience on their return.
Year 8 Skills Festival
A date for the diary Chelmsford City Council have invited our Year 8 students to a Careers Skills Festival at Writtle University College on 30th June. Our students will get to experience hands on careers activities in a festival style setting. We believe that giving our students early careers opportunities and employer encounters helps to focus their studies.
More details to follow after our half term break.
SIXTH FORM INFORMATION
Year 13:
Year 13 have started their exams in a professional manner. We are proud of their efforts so far and continue to wish them the best of luck for the exam season.
Year 12:
With half term coming up we would like to remind you of the important events coming up for Year 12.
- Firstly, from June 5th through to 12th June inclusive, Year 12 students will be sitting their mock examinations. Students have been sent timetables and it is their responsibility to arrive for their exams on time. When students do not have an exam they will be on study leave. Students are still able to come into school and use the facilities as they wish but must sign in and out through the sign in app when on the school site. The mock examination grades will help contribute to the predicted grades which will be sent to future employers/apprenticeship providers and on UCAS applications alongside classwork, homework and general attitude. Students had an assembly this week to remind them of the exam expectations.
- On Wednesday 14th June Year 12 students will be going to Essex University to go to the UCAS Fair. This is where students can gather more information on their post 18 options. It is an important trip and can really help students with post 18 options. There are a variety of universities there as well as apprenticeship options and students can speak to students and gather literature at this event. We would ask for parents/carers to complete the google form and complete payment for this trip as soon as possible. Students will be asked to attend an assembly at 8.35am on the day to explain the day and what to look for as well as be set a task to complete on the day and when we return.
- Year 12 students have been emailed invitations to the event from UCAS and need to complete the form and get their ticket on their mobile phone or print it out. They should take a screen shot of the ticket so they have the barcode ready for entry for the exhibition. Each individual needs to do this - we cannot do this for the students.
- On Thursday 15th and Friday 16th June students will be involved in two career progression days within the Sixth Form. We have managed to get a number of representatives from external companies in to interview all of the students in the year to help them improve their interview skills, and we have a number of apprenticeship companies and universities coming in to talk to the students.
- Students will need their CV for Thursday 15th June and the interview and should dress smart to impress. Students were asked to hand in their CV to the Sixth Form office and if it has been handed in, have been given feedback on how to improve it ready for the day. Students should make improvements to the CV and prepare themselves for the interview. Each student will receive feedback on their interview technique to support them moving forward. Students will also engage in an assessment centre activity to prepare them for a group interview/apprenticeship assessment.
- On Friday 16th June students will be setting up their UCAS and apprenticeship accounts in school and will be given time to do this, as well as be informed of how to create an excellent personal statement and be given time to start this process. We will end the day with a number of talks from alumni who will talk through the post 18 paths they took and how they got into their chosen career.
We wish our students the best of luck with their mock examinations and look forward to sharing the career progression days with them.
We would also like to take this opportunity to remind you that work experience for Year 12 takes place on the week of July 17th - 21st. Students by now should have arranged their own work experience in this time and the first form should be completed and handed into the Sixth Form office by 5th June. Work experience is an integral part of the CV and personal statement for any post 18 option. If students do not find work experience for this time we will be running a course in school for the week but it would be much more beneficial for students to experience the real working world and have something to put on their CV, and something we can add into the reference. If students are struggling finding work experience they should speak to the Sixth Form office.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the Sixth Form office.
YEAR 11 MATHS EXAM BREAKFAST CLUBS
The maths department will be running a series of breakfast clubs each morning of the maths exam.
We are encouraging year 11 students to drop in at any time to make sure they are prepared for the exam (equipment/calculator etc). Any questions or topics they have been stuck on can be worked on and there will be a selection of exam style questions they can use to warm up their brains!
These will be in N32 and a member of the maths team will be there from 7:45 to welcome them.
Dates of exams: 7th June and 14th June (both calculator papers).
Look forward to seeing you there.
