Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 31st January 2020
Our Glowing Christingle Service
Worshipping Together
All the children enjoyed making their Christingles on Tuesday so we say a special thank you to all the Cathedral volunteers and parents and grandparents who helped. It was lovely to have the school still full of children at 4pm, busy eating their jacket potatoes which the kitchen staff kindly stayed behind to prepare and serve, thank you to them also.
We arrived at the Cathedral in the twilight for our memorable Christingle Service. Thank you to Canon Ailsa for leading us and to everyone in the community who came along to help, sing and enjoy.

Keeping Healthy
Year 2 have been learning about keeping healthy. They have been exercising and exploring different food types. This week they have set up two experiments answering the questions 'How do different kinds of drinks affect our teeth?' and 'What happens when we eat food without washing our hands?' Now they will wait to see what happens.
We would like to reassure you that no children were harmed in the making of this experiment! There are eggs in the drink cups to mimic the enamel of teeth. The bread was touched by washed hands, unwashed hands and after using hand gel and has now been left to see what happens to each sample. We await the results with anticipation!
Holocaust Memorial Day
Spread the word!
Although Mrs Binks doesn't really want a fuss, we know that there are hundreds of families out there who have appreciated the wonderful start she has given their children at the very beginning of their school journey. We would be very happy to welcome families who have left school back for our farewell tea party on Tuesday 11th February at 2.30pm - as well as everyone who is still here of course! If you would like to bring a cake or baked item for the tea party, please would you let Mrs Rich know? Many thanks.
Rugby will still be on but will be outside again - where rugby is meant to be played! Thanks for your understanding, there's always so much on at school finding a date to suit everyone can be tricky!
Thank you again!
Attendance Matters
Attendance at school is very important as regular absence has a significant impact on progress and can result in gaps in learning. Our target for whole school average attendance is 97% which is in line with national figures. So far our average is 95.86%.
These are the statistics per class for the year to date:
Reception - 96.89%
Year 1 – 95.54%
Year 2 – 95.79%
Year 3 – 95.87%
Year 4 – 96.71%
Year 5 – 96.55%
Year 6 – 94.31%
Staffing Update
Due to notice periods there will be a short time that we need to provide cover until our new teacher is able to start. We have appointed a wonderful teacher called Mrs Sarah Gibbs to teach in the second half of this term, she has extensive early years experience and she is really looking forward to joining us. Mrs Gibbs will be visiting the school over the next couple of weeks to ensure that the transition from Mrs Binks is as smooth as possible.

Christingle Service - Tuesday 28th January - 5pm in the Cathedral
Letters with full details went out earlier this week but please remember that next Tuesday evening all main school children are invited to stay after school, to be joined by their families in the Cathedral at 5pm for the Christingle Service.
This lovely service has become an annual tradition in which we hope everyone will want to participate again this year. All children from Reception to Year 6 are invited to stay after school for tea before walking up to the Cathedral together. We will look after the children after school and the school kitchen will provide everyone with a free jacket potato before we walk up to the Cathedral in time for the 5pm service in the nave. You are warmly invited to join us in the Cathedral for this very special service. Children must be collected from the Cathedral at 5.30pm.
