Report Cards go out Soon.

Your child’s report card will be ready for distribution on January 17th. I would like to encourage you to take an opportunity to review the report card with your child. Remember to praise your child for the progress they are making before you discuss any areas that you feel they need to improve on. The purpose of the SISD report card is to assess your child’s progress on the TEKS that were covered for the previous 9 weeks. The report card is intended to foster dialogue between your child’s teacher and you. If you have any questions and would like to speak to your child’s teacher, please call to make an appointment to speak with them during their conference period.

ABC's of Parent Teacher Meetings

Report cards will be going out soon and you may have some questions about your child's progress. Please reach out to your child's teacher to discuss your questions. Here are some helpful hints.

Always prepare. Have some questions ready like "How is My child’s attitude in class?” Let the teacher know about your child’s needs and interests.

Be Positive. Showing the teacher you appreciate their efforts helps to build a strong relationship. Talk about a project your child really enjoyed.

Check back. Work with your child in the areas that need improvement. Ask your child’s teacher how you can help. After a few weeks check on their progress by calling or writing a note.

Traffic Tardies

During the last week in December we noticed an unusually high amount of tardies. We understand that the traffic in our area is very hectic. We ask that you plan your commute to our school keeping this in mind. We understand the difficulties with traffic, but your child misses a great deal of instruction if they are consistently late. Studies show that the more time children are in class the better they perform academically. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Cardiel or Ms. Marquez in the attendance office. Thank you for helping us with this important endeavor.

Credit by Exam

Did you know that Socorro ISD has a process in place to have your child double promoted? Our school counselors are the point of contact if you feel your child would benefit from skipping a grade level. A series of screening assessments as well as four formal exams in each content area, given by Texas Tech University will determine grade placement for the following school year. We have implemented a new district wide SEL (Social Emotional Learning) program titled ReThink. This is a program that createsa healthy school climate, promotes a greater awareness and understanding of mental health and wellness, and empowers educators with training and instructional tools that drive whole school success.
