Principal's Message
It was a great first week back and I don't know about you, but I already think 2021 is going to better because there were virtually no issues with the Zoom update!!
We are hoping to begin Hybrid Learning the week of the 18th. Our School Board will be discussing the Hybrid plan and voting on that tomorrow at their meeting. The January 11, Board of Education meeting will be held at 7 pm at Metea Valley High School. Attendees can enter door #1 beginning at 6 pm. Please note the current COVID-related restrictions limits seating at the meeting. Limited seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 6 pm. All attendees will be required to maintain social distancing and wear masks at all times. Community members can watch the meeting livestream on the district’s YouTube channel. Meeting agendas and documents will be available online prior to the meeting.
Best,
Alli Landstrom
Monday Schedule Reminder
Hybrid/Remote Learning Information
We are looking forward to the start of our in-person hybrid model. The current plan, if metrics allow, is for all Kindergarten - 2nd grade students to start the week of January 18th, and 3rd grade through 5th grade students to start the week of January 25th. Careful consideration has been put into assigning students to the A cohort or the B cohort. Students in the A cohort will attend school in person on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-11:30am. Students in the B cohort will attend school in person on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9-11:30am. Students who are remote will not attend school in person. Please log into ParentVue to see which cohort your child(ren) have been assigned. Directions for accessing this information in ParentVue for your child are below.
As long as it's approved, all students will move to the new Hybrid Schedule the week of the 18th. Please see the following link for a visual of the schedule: Hybrid/Remote General Student Schedule More specific classroom schedules as well as other information will be shared with you on Friday, January 15th.
As stated above, for the week of the 18th, our Kindergarten - 2nd grade students who have chosen hybrid will come to Peterson on either Tuesday/Thursday or Wednesday/Friday. Our 3rd-5th grade students who have chosen hybrid will be at home and Zoom on Tuesday/Thursday or Wednesday/Friday.

Second Step
This month, our schoolwide theme is emotion management. In our morning announcements and through Second Step lessons, we’ll be prompting students to notice their own feelings by paying attention to clues in their bodies, and we’ll be reminding them to use their Second Step skills to calm down:
- Stop—Use your signal
- Name your feeling
- Calm down: Breathe, count, use positive self-talk
These skills help students calm down strong emotions when faced with learning and social challenges, which helps them succeed academically and get along well with others.
Second Step lessons specifically teach about calming down strong emotions such as anger, disappointment, frustration, and anxiety. You’ll be receiving Home Links that describe why managing strong emotions is important and include fun activities to do with your child to help him or her identify strong feelings and calm down. We hope the Home Links will give you tools to use together when your child is upset.
Please contact us if you have questions about how you can help your child learn to calm down at home.
Tech Assistance for Chromebooks
The district continues to streamline the process for Chromebooks that need tech assistance. In order to meet the needs of our students with their technology needs, we are asking that if you have issues with your Chromebook, follow the new process below:
- The district asks that you use the Troubleshooting/Service Ticket Form to see if you can solve your issue with these troubleshooting directions. Most issues can be resolved following these steps.
- If you are unable to resolve your issue after following these directions, there is a form to fill out at the bottom of the troubleshooting document (link above) that will create a service ticket for your child's Chromebook.
- Once this form is filled out by you, someone from the district will be in contact with you about the issue.
- Please use an email address that you check frequently since this is the best way to contact you about the situation.
Thank you for your patience as we continue to work through this process.
