From the Principal!

Howdy Fabra Families!

Happy Friday! Happy National Teaching Assistant Day! We are so blessed for each and every one of our incredible Teaching Assistants here at Fabra! These incredible ladies pour in so much time, energy, support, and love to our entire staff and students. They are a vital part of making Fabra the wonderful place it is! Thank you to all of our Falcons that wore teal or spirit wear today in order to increase awareness for food allergies!

Today we got to celebrate three grade levels for their incredible attendance for the second three-week period! First Grade, Second Grade, and Fifth Grade all had over 97% attendance with Second grade being the highest in the school twice in a row! Great Job! We can't stress the importance of timely attendance enough. You may have noticed that students who arrive late to school will be handed a tardy slip upon entering campus. Reminder, a student is tardy when they are not in their homeroom class and ready to learn when the 7:35am bell rings. Students who are dropped off or arrive at 7:35 or even just a minute are two before are tardy by the time they make it to class. Please help your student have a great start to their day by having them at school by 7:25 am. This gives them plenty of time get to class, unload their belongings, and be ready for the instructional day.

Please read through this newsletter for information regarding upcoming events as well as information for the upcoming weeks. As always, please reach out to us if we can help in any way. Have a wonderful weekend!

Green Machine Run Club!

Each Fall our Green Machine Run Club participates in the annual YMCA Turkey Trot. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, November 18th! We have won the award for the largest group to attend for the past two years and are planning to make it three in a row! Please consider registering your child (and yourself) to participate in this event! We will have staff members participating but we do encourage parents to participate as well! Students will be able to register at the $25.00 registration fee up until the day before the race. There is a section where they must enter their school and you need to be sure to select FABRA. Older school aged siblings can take advantage and register under Fabra as well! The parents the price will increase by $10.00 on Oct. 1st, so take advantage of the lower fee. We look forward to another great year with the Green Machine and can’t wait to participate in the Turkey Trot event. *ALL run club members will be receiving a shirt this year, free of charge! We invite and encourage them to wear them on Thursdays once they receive them and to each event we participate in as well!

Fabra Early Act Club!

Fabra will be resurrecting the Early Act Program with the help of the Boerne Sunrise Rotary Club (Tuesday mornings) and the Boerne Noon Rotary Club (Friday lunch). Early Act is a school wide program that will allow students from 2nd to 5th grade to participate.

The mission of Early Act is to promote goodwill, understanding, and peace through active participation of its student membership and effective leadership.

The object of Early Act is to provide young students with the opportunity to serve and lead in their school, community, and global community. The first project will highlight one of Boerne’s own, Noah Patton, current BHS senior and founder of Good for the Soul. Fabra will be collecting gently used sneakers in the fall to give to children in need.

Meetings will take place once a month starting in October in the Fabra Library from 3:15 pm - 4pm. Attached is a link you may use to sign up. If you are looking for more information please contact the club sponsor, Naomi Jendrusch at naomi.jendrusch@boerneisd.net

Welcome to the Library!

For the next couple of weeks in the library, we will be discussing rules and character with the Kindergarteners and 1st graders.

2nd grade is starting their first chapter book read aloud in the library. We will be having discussions about each chapter. It's going to be fun.

3rd, 4th, and 5th are learning how to search for books on our online catalog and then find the books on the shelf. My goal is for them to be able to navigate their school library on their own when they go to middle school.

Has your child been caught reading?

Teachers and staff are emailing me the names of students as they catch them reading throughout the school day. This means they were reading when they were not instructed to do so; if they finished their work while waiting in line, at lunch or recess, etc. I then put their name on a ticket. Each Wednesday I draw one ticket from the jar and that student gets to choose a piece of library swag as a reward. Let's get our students Reading!

Thank you so much for helping your child keep their books in their backpacks this year. I know having library every 6 days can make it difficult to keep track of when they have library. Keeping their book in their backpack ensures that it always comes back to school. Remember that they should also have their library books inside of their Ziplock bag. This should help keep them safe. If their bag tears, please give them a new one. No worries if their book doesn't fit. We are working on getting some of the giant-size bags.

If you want to volunteer in the library, you can reach me by email- catherine.lopez@boerneisd.net or by phone- 830-357-4214. Our library website is https://www.boerneisd.net/domain/4231

Library Books

K-1st can check out 1 book

2nd - 5th can check out 2 books

Lost or Damaged Books

  • If your child loses or damages a book beyond repair, they are responsible for replacing the book.
  • You can pay with cash or check (made out to Fabra Elementary) and now you can also pay on Revtrak! With Revtrak you can pay with a credit card. You will need to know the replacement cost and that will be on the overdue notice that I will send home in your child's green folder.
  • You can also replace it with a used book that is in good or better condition. Amazon usually has good prices. Please make sure it is a Hardcover book.

If you have any questions for me, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

Here is the schedule: Next Monday we will be at Day 4!

Counselor's Corner

Boerne ISD believes in the ASCD Whole Child approach, which is "an effort to transition from a focus on narrowly defined academic achievement to one that promotes the long-term development and success of all children.” It is important to the whole child counseling team to have a common language for instruction across all campuses. BISD counselors utilize the Great 8 Skills to accomplish this. These skills are taught quarterly during Morning Meetings with their homeroom teacher as well as during Guidance Lessons with Mrs. Vinyard. Our first Great 8 Skill of the year is “Optimistic Thinking.”

Here is a breakdown of Mrs. Vinyard’s guidance schedule for the first 9 weeks of school:

Optimistic Thinking

8/21 to 8/25 -5th

8/28 to 9/1 - 4th

9/5 to 9/8 - 3rd

9/11 to 9/15 - 2nd

9/18 to 9/22 - 1st

9/25 to 9/29 - K

Please reach out to Mrs. Vinyard if you have any questions regarding our school counseling program.
