Walk-a-thon News!

As we get closer to the Walk-a-thon, we have a special prize for those students (families) with the highest pledges/donations for that week. Please have your child turn in their donation sheets on Monday mornings. The 3 sheets with the highest number of pledges/donations for that week, will be recognized during lunch. Together, we can reach our goal of raising $5000 for our school!

Please plan to attend Mass with us this coming Sunday at 9 am at Sts. Cyril and Methodius! We will be praying for our teachers during Catechetical Weekend. Please have students wear their uniforms to Mass. This is the first of 3 Masses throughout the school year that we try to attend as a whole school family.

St. Therese, Sts. Cyril and Methodius, pray for us!

School Picture Day

School Picture order forms have been sent home. K-6 students are asked to wear uniforms. Picture day is Monday, September 19. Retakes are scheduled for Monday, October 24. Preschool friends are welcome to come whichever day works best for them. Preschool pictures begin at 9:00 am and we move our way up to 6th grade.

Virtue of the Week September 19-25: Obedience

Definition: Assenting to rightful authority without hesitation or resistance

Prayer: Dear Jesus, You are God, and yet You were obedient to Mary and Joseph. Help me to do all that my parents and teachers ask of me—promptly, joyfully, and completely.

Listen to the Virtue Minute!

You are Invited to a Gala Dinner in honor of Deacon Jeff and Deacon Mark

On September 8, both Deacon Jeff and Deacon Mark celebrated the 10th Anniversary of their Ordination to the Diaconate. We are celebrating with a Gala Dinner on Friday, September 30, from 5-9 pm at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Hall, 159 131st Avenue, Wayland Michigan. RSVP to STTParish1@gmail.com or info@sscmparish.org before September 20.

In honor of the Deacons, Bishop Bradley will celebrate Mass at St. Therese on Sunday, October 2nd, at 10:30 am.

Walk a Thon

It is time for our annual Walk-a-thon! Once again, we will be walking at Hungry Horse Campgrounds with friends from our sister schools; St. Stanislaus and St. Mary's Visitation.

This is our major fundraiser for the school this year. Best practice for quality Catholic Schools operation on a 1/3-1/3-1/3 funding formula. 1/3 of our funding comes from tuition payments, 1/3 of our funding comes from parish support, and the final 1/3 comes from donations and giving. This means that when your family and friends support the Walk-a-thon they are helping us to engage in best practices. Maintaining the 1/3-1/3-1/3 balance means that we can continue to keep tuition costs down because we are not solely relying on our families to fund the school.

Help Needed

We need someone to walk with our classes to Henika Library on September 20. A big thank you to Laura Menke and her mom for volunteering for this past week! If you can volunteer, please either fill out the form on Sign Up Genius (Chaperones to walk to Henika Library) or text Sheryl at 616.291.7443.

Conferences are coming on September 28 and 29. Our teachers teach all day and start conferences almost as soon as our students are dismissed. It would be a great service to them to have someone coordinate a simple dinner on the evening of the 28th. A crockpot of soup, some bread, and a little sweet would go a long way to helping our teachers maintain their stamina during conferences. If you would be willing to help round up a few other families to help put together dinner for the teachers, please click on the link and sign up to Coordinate dinner for the teachers. Thank you in advance!

Volunteers Needed

  • LCAB Members
  • Coordinate dinner for the teachers during evening conferences on September 28
  • Santa's Secret Shop (We will help you get started!)

All school volunteers are required to be Virtus trained (available online) and have a current criminal background check. You may complete the Virtus training at www.Virtus.org>>First Time Registrant.

Criminal background check (iChat) forms can be found here and may be turned in at the office.
