WEEK OF 5-16-2016

Greetings Falcon Families,

Your Falcon scholar should be congratulated for taking the STAAR examinations with commitment and dedication. We are proud of his/her efforts. Our teachers should also be recognized for setting the tone of success throughout the school year. STAAR may be over, however, learning and quality instruction will continue through the end of the school year. STAAR is an exam, day-to-day instruction is a process that leads our students to be successful and productive members of our community. Thank you Falcon families for supporting our students and teachers during this time.

Last weekend, two Quiz Bowl teams represented Fulmore MS at the Quiz Bowl National Championship Tournament in Atlanta. Falcons show marked improvement over last year’s standing in the tournament. Quiz Bowl consists of games of questions and answers covering all areas of knowledge. Participants benefit from studying a broad range of academic subjects, increasing memorization and study skills, learning to work in teams, and expanding their capacity for responsibility. Congratulations go to the following students on the Quiz Bowl team for participation and being outstanding academic Champions. A-Team: Dylan, Audrey, Ben, and Ellen. B-Team: Brooke, Eva, Maverick, Nicholas, and Sam.

A HUGE thank you goes out to Torchy’s Tacos who is partnering with Fulmore MS over the next three years. Last week Torchy’s treated Fulmore’s Leadership Team and PTA Board to a Queso Party and Fulmore was presented with a $15,000 check. The funds will be going towards: monthly taco fund that we will be using for our student-athletes; supporting our digital library; and a special project fund. Thank you Torchy’s!

The Fulmore Fine Arts Department will be raising money for the campus on Sunday, May 15th from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Green Mesquite BBQ restaurant located at 1400 Barton Springs Rd. Student performances by the Choir, Orchestra, and Jazz Band, as well as a rock band showcase featuring sixth-grade student Jack, will entertain South Austin for an afternoon of music and giving. Donations will be accepted throughout the festivities, and will be used to benefit all the students at Fulmore. Stay connected with information about the event through the Facebook event page: www.facebook.com/events/172576016471722/; or by liking the band's Facebook page: www.facebook.com/Fulmore-Bands-112702835454765/. Email Mr. Kennedy at patrick.kennedy@austinisd.org with any questions. We hope to see you there!

Fulmore students participated in the Travis County 4-H CEP Photography contest and were awarded 24 ribbons for their photographs. Thank you to Nathan Tucker, the Photography Club sponsor, for teaching Fulmore students the intricacies of photography. Wishing you a wonderful weekend,
