2019-2020 Class Lists
We are in the beginning stages of creating class lists for the 2019-2020 school year. While we do not accept teacher requests, we do seek input to help us match the right learning style and attributes to make a great fit for next year. If there is any information you would like for us to consider when building the lists, now is the time to share your thoughts.
I will accept input until April 22nd at 3 p.m.
You may send me an email at eschill@smcsc.com to share your thoughts. Please put 2019-2020 class lists in the subject line.
Have a great week!

School Counselor's Corner
Parents,
This week our Project Care focus was on how to use good manners when an adult says something that a student thinks is rude. Adults may talk with students in a quick and commanding way for several reasons. Sometimes adults have to give directions in a commanding way for safety reasons. Policeman, parents, teachers, and principals use a commanding stern voice to send students the message that what they are saying is important and must be heard. Sometimes students may not like the way things are said and may feel adults are being mean, rude, or not nice. Here are some things that students can do when they feel like an adult is not being nice or upsets them:
- Stop and think before they answer back. Answering back rudely NEVER helps.
- They can use the Second Step skills that they have learned to help calm themselves. Using pausing, deep breathing, and positive self-talk to help keep them from responding in a negative way.
- Try to avoid assuming that the adult is mad at them or that they have done something wrong just because the adult’s response seems commanding and rude. They may not intend to be rude. They may just need everyone to listen.
- When the adult is speaking to them they should listen, make eye contact, and nod their head that they are hearing what the adult is saying.
- They should talk with another trusted adult such as a parent or a teacher if they continue to feel upset about how the adult talked with them.
Please try to follow-up on this message at home this week by discussing the following questions with your student: How do feel and react when an adult is giving you a stern command that you think is not nice? What things do you do to help stay and calm and relaxed when this happens?
Until next week……….
