4-H Spotlight: Arrows & Ammo 4-H Club
On February 1st and 2nd, six youth from the Arrows & Ammo 4-H Club travelled to Wayne County to participate in a BB Gun and Air Rifle competition. For some of the youth, it was their very first competition! Our club is extremely proud of these youths who worked hard to quickly learn all four shooting positions required in BB Gun. Shooting in multiple positions requires skill, patience, and stamina. The competition was broken down into various age categories and every youth from the Arrrows & Ammo 4-H Club who participated received a placing! Club youth are now practicing for several more upcoming competitions, as well as the Nebraska State 4-H BB Gun and Air Rifle Competition being held March 28 and 29th.
BB Gun Division:
- Age 8: Hailey Marsh, 3rd place
- Ages 9-10: Ethen Henkel, 3rd place
- Ages 10-11: Kali Marsh, 4th place & 8th overall; Archer Antonson, 10th place
- Ages 13-15: Ryan Marsh, 3rd place & 7th overall
Air Rifle Division:
- Aaliyah Goodloff, 4-H Ages 13-18: 3rd place & 3rd overall, NRA: 3rd place Jr. Sporter, 2nd place NRA Open Sporter

BE AN AG INNOVATOR!
This year the topic is water! The “Valuable Water Challenge,” is an educational activity focusing on the importance of ecosystem services and how they produce many life-sustaining benefits. These services are
important to environmental and human health and well-being, yet they are limited and often taken for granted. The 2020 AIE challenge will specifically focus on the ecosystem services as related to clean water and its role
in securing a sustainable food supply. Youth will be challenged to better understand and contribute toward conservation practices to improve water quality.
Teens will be expected to attend training on Saturday, March 21st in Columbus and each county will need to develop a plan to reach at least 50 youth in grades 3-8th grade.

STATE Public Speaking Contest Update
Because of restructuring in Nebraska Extension, Nebraska 4-H is moving away from regional contests. This as a great opportunity to elevate the educational components associated with the Public Speaking contest!
The 2020 contest will be held in Lincoln, Nebraska and will be a part of the PASE/Life Challenge experience. Once counties have conducted their contests, the top 5 competitors in both Speech and PSA for Int. & Sr. age groups will be invited to compete at the state wide public speaking contest to be held on a third day of PASE/Life Challenge.
What this looks like:
PSA
- Intermediate Top 5 from County Competition
- Senior Top 5 from County Competition
- Total of 15 potential PSA submissions to the competition from the county.
Speech
- Intermediate Top 5 from County Competition
- Senior Top 5 from County Competition
- Total of 15 potential Speech submissions from the county competition.
Please note, in order to qualify, all participants must have earned a purple ribbon at the county competition. Also, as in years past, youth do not have to be present on the day of the competition to participate in the PSA competition. Ribbon placing and medalists will be announced on the day of the competition.
MORE INFORMATION ON THIS OPPORTUNITY WILL BE PROVIDED CLOSE TO THE CONTEST DATE. STAY TUNED!
