Panther Pause
21 years of Pride at Colleyville Heritage High School

Panthers,
First of all, I hope everyone had a long and restful break. I know the Groppel family truly enjoyed our time together and I hope your family was able to do the same. I always seem to be amazed at the great accomplishments of our staff and students; this week was no different for me. Last night, we held the first annual GCISD Science Fair. Students from our Research and Design class presented their first semester projects to a large group of people, and I can tell you that the future is very bright. I was amazed at their thought process and what they decided to research and how they hope to change the future. We had students examine how to more efficiently use biodegrade materials in landfills, how to develop a biodegradable material for a tarp, and how to most effectively make water usable in difficult times similar to Hurricane Harvey where people don't have access to drinkable water. These are just a few examples from the 100+ different projects our students completed.
It is an exciting time in our extracurricular programs at CHHS as many of them spent their winter break practicing and/or competing. For example, the band and choir students are preparing for their individual all-state competitions tomorrow; the boys and girls soccer teams began playing games, and we are very excited about what their season has in store; our wrestling teams are in full swing and brought home three victories last night in their home match; our cheer team is headed to the UIL Spirit State Championship tomorrow morning; and, finally, our boys and girls basketball programs are in district play as they host our crosstown friends tonight beginning at 6:30pm. As you can see, it is a busy time in the Land of the Panthers! Have a great, long weekend and GO PANTHERS!
