How they got to Ellis Island.
Many immigrant were from all over Europe, and were usually very poor and had a hard time getting to the steam ships were they would be separated into 1st class, 2nd class and 3rd class. 2nd and 1st class most likely would get a cabin or a room to sleep in which was for the wealthy people. Although 3rd class was always was crowded at the bottom of the ship and smelt horrible and didn't get any privacy.
When they got there.
1st and 2nd class sometimes got sent straight into America, but 3rd class had to wait sometimes 3 days to even get to Ellis island for the check ups and to see if they're clear to enter America. An t that's "The Passage".
