September 17, 2023
Dear Stallion Families,
We are looking forward to kicking off Hispanic Heritage Month this week! Our Hispanic Heritage Month campus committee has been working hard to organize a variety of events and performances for our students to honor the culture and importance of the month.
Please see the details below for ways that our staff and students will be celebrating National Heritage Month until October 15th.
To the BEST of days,

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month!
According to the United States Library of Congress, “Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100-402.
We are #cfbproud of our Hispanic and Latino American #cfbcommunity members who have helped shape CFBISD.
Please see the events we will be participating in as we celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month as a Stark community:
- September 28th - Students can dress in traditional Hispanic clothing
- Daily Loteria played in the classrooms with Spanish books and books by Spanish authors as prizes
- Featured Hispanic authors in the library
- Folkloric Dancers from RLT performance
- Mariachis from Perry performance
- Matachines performance

The Buddy-A-Thon Fundraiser is coming to Stark!
We are raising funds for our “Sharpen the Saw” Clubs…which are student interest clubs.
The next step is to use this link: https://bit.ly/3DVXGU4 which takes you to our schools' fundraiser website where you can register and set up your student’s personal donation page. On this page, you can invite your family and friends to join our efforts by sending them an email and/or a text.
This entire process can be completed in less than 10 minutes!
So, please get started and send out 10 or more valid emails/texts via your student's personal donation page so that they can earn a Kung Fu Flying Chicken and a Dexter the Dragon Key Chain (students can wear the key chain at school during our Buddy-A-Thon)! And with some donations, their very own Buddy and possibly some outfits for their Buddy!
Thank you for helping your student help our school!
All personal information will be used for this ONE TIME program to support Stark Elementary. This information will be kept confidential and will not be sold, reused, rented, loaned or otherwise disclosed.

Attendance Awareness Month
CFBISD has coordinated with the Carrollton Fire Department retired fire truck, “The General,” to visit each elementary campus. Elementary students who have perfect attendance in the month of September are eligible for the following:
- Ice cream treats
- Meet the firefighters visiting the campus
- Tour the fire truck and flow water from fire hoses
"The General" will spend two hours at each elementary school (PK-2 for one hour and 3-5 for one hour) on a chosen date and any student with perfect attendance this month is eligible for this prize!

Understanding Habit 1: Be Proactive
To be proactive means to take responsibility for your choices and behaviors. Proactive people say, “I am a responsible person. I take initiative. I choose my actions, attitudes, and moods. I do not blame others for my wrong actions. I do the right thing without being asked, even when no one is looking.”
Activity #2: Being a Transition Person
Watch the following video with your child: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-DIsWkaDJo
Take a picture of you and your family watching the video together. Upload you picture to the Google Form linked above as your evidence.
Who is a Transition Person?
Someone who is proactive and focuses on improving themselves, and inspires others to do the same. A Transition Person leads others to a more positive way of thinking.
Discussion Points:
- “Who has been a Transition Person in your life; someone who was a ‘Change Agent’ for you?
- Consider a way to recognize/honor this person.
- How can you be a Transition Person?
To receive credit for the activity, we ask that you submit a Google Form and send in a photograph to be displayed in the hallway to show that you completed the activity!

September is National Fruits and Veggies Month!
“The month of September is National Fruits and Veggies Month! An easy way to observe is add in a healthy option at each meal. Having a snack? Reach for an apple rather than candy! Make pizza for dinner and offer veggie toppings to make it fun and accessible!
Plenty of ways to make delicious and nutritious additions!

The Leader in Me - Be a Lighthouse Family!
This year we invite families to learn about the 7 Habits with us and to engage with your child at home around the habits through ideas and suggestions in this newsletter each week. By completing activities linked in the newsletter, you and your family could be a Stark Lighthouse Family!
In order to become a Leader in Me Lighthouse Family, complete at least one activity per habit. There are 7 Habits, so you would complete 7 activities throughout the year and your family would be a Lighthouse Family and will be invited to our Lighthouse Family dinner in April!
In the newsletter there will be a new activity each week for you to choose from. To receive credit for the activity, we ask that you submit a Google Form and send in a photograph to be displayed in the hallway to show that you completed the activity!
