Weekly Update
Dear LSUU Community,
Today we take the time to recognize and appreciate those that have served our country. Thank you to the veterans in our communities for their service. A Veterans Day breakfast was held at Stowe High School this morning and there were around forty in attendance. Many students came out to volunteer and give back to their neighbors.
Last weekend, two of our Lamoille South teams brought home state titles. Congrats to the PA Boys and the Stowe Girls on their impressive victories. Our fall athletic season was a success and we are very thankful to all those that volunteered as coaches, photographers, or just as good fans supporting our athletes.
Below, you will find a few other highlights from the week and I hope you have a wonderful and restful weekend.
Thank you,
Ryan Heraty

Portrait of a Graduate
As noted in last week's VIDEO, the Portrait of a Graduate project will create a shared vision for the LSUU graduate by engaging all partners (students, teachers, families, community members, businesses, etc.) so we can understand what is most important for a successful life.
Take this one question survey HERE to help provide your feedback.
Below: An important component to this project is making sure students are involved in every step of the process. PA student Logan LaCoss provided community members with an overview of the project on Tuesday at the art show. Look for our tables at upcoming events!
UVM Outstanding Educator Day
Congratulations to Davida DeLena and Elizabeth Emerson on being selected as the 2022 Vermont Outstanding Educators to represent Lamoille South. These two amazing teachers have made a tremendous difference on the lives of so many students and we are thrilled to celebrate this recognition
Wheels for Warmth
Students from Stowe High School spent their afternoon volunteering at Stowe Rotary's Wheels for Warmth fundraiser.
FIRST ROBOTICS COMES TO LSUU!
JOIN LSUU'S NEW HIGH SCHOOL FIRST® ROBOTICS TEAM!
What is FIRST Robotics? FIRST is a global organization that seeks to transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology leaders. In December, the newly formed Stowe Robotics Club is launching a FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team serving students in grades 9-12.
LSUU's new FRC team will be one of only five FRC teams in the entire state. With the support of coaches and mentors, students will design, build, and program a fully autonomous robot that can complete a series of timed tasks in a competitive arena against other high school teams.
The students have just six weeks to build and test their robot to ensure it is ready to compete.
Pre-season planning starts the first week of December. This will include weekly or biweekly meetings to introduce students to the game, the strategy, and to study past robotics competitions.
The competition season kicks off on January 7, 2023, when robotics teams around the world will be issued a common "challenge" and a basic kit of parts. From there, they will have to design and build an autonomous 130 pound robot that can complete an obstacle course in an arena, competing against other robots (think "Battle Bots: meets "Ninja Warrior" -- (In 2022, robots had to shoot basketballs and climb scaffolding).
The season culminates in a series of district competitions in Massachusetts in March, after which successful teams can advance to regional and national competitions.
Like any competitive sport, practices will be held 2-4 times per week (in the evenings) and may include some weekends. Interested students are welcome to participate, even if they can't attend all practices. And like any competitive endeavor, you get out of it what you put in.
The theme for the 2023 First Robotics Competition season is “Energize.” As part of their learning, students will be challenged to “reimagine the future of energy,” seeking new, sustainable ways to power our world into the future.
By participating in a competitive FRC robotics team in Stowe, students will gain real-world skills in teamwork, engineering, design, business planning, fundraising, programming, public speaking, and marketing. They will stretch their minds and test themselves in a competitive undertaking while enjoying the camaraderie and thrill of working together toward a common goal that team sports provide.

Student Athletic Leadership Conference
Peoples Academy and Stowe High sent several students to the Vermont Student Athletic Leadership Conference. The students did an amazing job representing our schools. The purpose of the conference is to equip the participants with the tools and confidence to be effective leaders on their athletic teams and to share this positive attitude with their school and community. Athletic Directors Gabi Silva and Tim Albertson joined the event as well.
