December 1, 2021
Welcome to the season of Advent! This First Week of Advent coincides with the parish celebration of Forty Hours, and the beginning of a new trimester. We are on the cusp of several new beginnings: the new liturgical year; autumn turning to winter; the chance to turn good grades into great; field hockey, cross country, and football giving way to basketball; and so much more. It is a time of looking back with gratitude for what was. We have been blessed with the joy and laughter of schoolchildren attending daily classes. We have been supported in our time of deep sorrow with the love of friends and neighbors. This is a time of looking forward with hope for a better tomorrow. Knowing our Savior lives on in the Eucharist gives us strength. Trusting in His promise to come again brings us peace. It’s all good!
The new calendar year brings us to the centennial celebration of Saint Andrew School. For one hundred years faith and knowledge have been the keywords which describe the purpose of Saint Andrew School. As noted in the recent Day of Catholic Giving, the only thing this school lacks is a regulation-size gym. The parish centennial campaign raised funds to complete the facilities. We were ready to break ground for the new gym in 2021. However, recent changes in the economy prompted the Archdiocese of Philadelphia to require 75% of funds in hand before breaking ground, as opposed to the prior standard of 50%. So we have a bit more fundraising to do. Yesterday’s Day of Catholic Giving provided a starting point for raising these extra funds. While online giving closed on November 30th, offline donations will be accepted throughout the school year. Please consider giving to this campaign. No gift is too small!
In the meantime, we continue to build a culture of Life and a civilization of Love for our children. We are grateful to the many Home and School parent volunteers who work tirelessly to support programs that the students and families enjoy. These include:
Cookies and Milk with Santa will be held on Saturday, December 4th from 2:00-4:00. Registration is required. Registration closes on December 1st.
The annual Live Nativity will be held on Sunday, December 12th from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on the Church lawn. Weather permitting, sixth and seventh-grade students along with animals from Quiver Farm portray a tableau of the birth of Christ. Families are invited to reflect on the presence of God with Us during this event.
Home and School’s annual Santa’s Secret Shop will be held on December 15th & 16th
Students are able to shop for family members’ gifts provided by local vendors. All items are reasonably priced. Home and School will gladly accept unused gift items that may be someone else’s treasure. These items can be sent to the main office through next week.
Our Christmas Concert will be held on Tuesday, December 21st at 7:00 PM in McGettigan Hall. Members of the Saint Andrew School band and chorus will share their talents with the school community.
School closes for the Christmas holiday at noon on December 22nd. Classes resume on Monday, January 3rd. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is a school holiday. However, students in Grades 3-8 are invited to participate in the MLK Day of Service held in McGettigan Hall on January 17th.
School is also closed on Tuesday, January 18th. This is an additional change to the original school calendar. Our teachers will undergo training in Virtue Based Restorative Discipline (VBRD). Saint Andrew School was accepted to the first VRBD cohort in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. This training is provided to twelve AOP schools through a grant offered by the Ambassadors’ Fund.
On behalf of the faculty and staff of Saint Andrew School, I wish you many blessings during this special time.
Peace and all Good,
Helen McLean, Ed.D.

MLK Day of Service - POSTPONED
Saint Andrew School will hold an MLK Day of Service on January 17, 2022, from 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM in McGettigan Hall.
This "day on" not "day off" will involve Saint Andrew School students in grades 3 - 8. The program will begin with a student-led prayer service and then participants will move through 6-7 workstations where they engage in activities for various local charities.
A student permission form will be available in early January via Option C.
Parents interested in joining the committee can contact Melissa DiNofia - Bozzone at email@example.com.
Additionally, information will be forthcoming regarding donation requests to ensure a successful service day, with the Main Office as the collection drop-off location.
