CK's Bow Tie Corner - Hall Sweeps
Classroom time matters.
We want all students to be to class on time. As we keep the focus on instruction and learning, students are expected to be in their classroom before the last bell sounds. Students who do not have a pass are considered tardy to class. In an effort to minimize tardiness, we will be starting hall sweeps starting second quarter (October 21, 2019).
What is a hall sweep?
- Any student outside of class and without a pass will be "swept" to an administrator who will assign a detention.
- Teachers will mark the student tardy to class.
- Parents will be notified if their student has been "swept."
- Students will serve a scheduled after-school detention.
Like you, we want every student to get the most out of their classes. And, being on time is part of that effort.
We continue to practice and reteach the Buffett High Five – Be Hardworking, Be Kind, Be Safe, Be Trustworthy and Be Your Best and we thank you for your support!
YOUR VOICE MATTERS!!

Thanks for your input!Evacuation Drill Planned
At Buffett Magnet Middle School, we hope that we never have to relocate students from the building due to a man-made or natural emergency situation. However, to ensure that we are prepared for the unexpected situation, it is important that we practice our evacuation process.
On Wednesday, October 9, 2019, at approximately 1:25 PM, Buffett will practice our annual evacuation to another location drill as part of our crisis prevention plan. Students will walk to Fullerton Elementary if they are in 5th or 6th grade or Flatland Church if they are in 7th or 8th grade. These buildings have been chosen because of their proximity and their ability to safely secure nearly half of our 1100+ Buffett students at each site. During the evacuation drill, teachers will escort students to their parking lot locations and take attendance with class lists. After students have arrived at the parking lots of both sites, they will return to Buffett to continue with their regular activities. This will allow us to account for the whereabouts of all students, and it will help the entire process run as smoothly and systematically as possible.
We wanted you informed, as we conduct this drill so that you would not be surprised at our entire student body going for a walk Wednesday afternoon. As always, our goal is to ensure the safety of students in any type of emergency situation. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school at 531-299-2320.
Strive for 95!
Watch the video below about OPS' work to boost attendance and get students to school on time every day for at least 95% of the school year!
Thank You from Fullerton!
Fullerton Elementary staff would like to thank our awesome Bobcats who helped with their recent field day! These girls shined, even though the weather was gloomy at times.
Fullerton's Physical Education teacher, Patrick T. said, "They were all extremely polite and helpful and did a fantastic job....I would even go so far as to say this might have been the best bunch ever!!! They sure represented the Bobcat way!"
Way to go Bobcats! Keep up the great work!
Homework Hideout and After School Library
Buffett offers two after school opportunities for students to have a space to work on homework, study for tests, or work with teachers for some extra help.
Homework Hideout is offered by each team and days of the week vary by team. Please reach out to your child's homeroom teacher to see when Homework Hideout is offered on their team.
The library will be open starting on Sept. 24 after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Students must arrive by 3:10. Students getting rides or walking home, can leave when they need to, but will not be able to return once they leave for the day. Students needing to take the late bus need to sign up in the office. The late bus departs Buffett at 5:00.
Quiz Bowl Season Underway!
Quiz Bowl season is off to a strong start for the 19-20 competition series, placing 1st and 3rd at their most recent contest. Buffett's Quiz Bowl team practices after school and often competes on Saturdays around the metro area.
Quiz Bowl is coached by Mr. Jay Daugerty and Ms. Jennifer Moyer.
