Zoom-tastic "Zoom" Class Meetings Start Next Week!
We are excited to announce that starting next week our teachers will be scheduling a "Zoom-tastic" meeting with their homeroom class! Zoom is a platform for students to be able to connect with their teacher and classmates. ZOOM-tastic meetings will be scheduled during your teacher's office hours. Please expect an "invitation" to the first zoom meeting in your Monday email from your homeroom teacher.
Buckalew's ZOOM-tastic meetings will not be direct classroom instruction or new content. It simply is not possible to expect all kids to be in front of a device at the same time. As a campus, we have agreed that each homeroom teacher will provide an opportunity to have a ZOOM-tastic meeting with their class to provide connections and a sense of normalcy if students are able to join! If classes become fewer than 5 students, we will not host a meeting and can try again the following week.
Please know ZOOM-tastic meetings will be optional and purely for the social emotional connection for your child as we explore these dynamics between now and May 4th.
The teacher will most likely start with going over some ZOOM rules for a successful experience. Please also know that we are very sensitive that this does not lend itself to being inclusive of all classmates, but it is an attempt to build connections for those who can make a weekly ZOOM-tastic meeting. If your child can't make it one week, hopefully they will be able to join the following week.

Buckalew Remote Learning Center "RLC"
Buckalew has created an online Remote Learning Center for your Buckalew student. We hope this will provide clarity on how to communicate with your child's teacher, what office hours are available, and what platform each grade level is using to provide remote learning.
Canvas Help for Both Parents and Students by Mrs. Reynolds, Technology Teacher
You can BE Anything~ WE can BE BEtter Together!
As a district, we are recommending 1.5 hours of learning experiences K-2 and 2 hours of learning for 3rd and 4th grades. Buckalew teachers have worked hard to collaborate and provide these learning opportunities for you in our RLC. We do however recognize that we are in various home situations at this time. If the learning connections are too much at this time, we understand. If you need more learning experiences than what the homeroom/grade level has provided, we encourage you to use the CISD Instructional Resources for parents by visiting: https://sites.google.com/conroeisd.net/parent-instructional-resources
Counselor's Corner with Mrs. Points
I am so excited to bring you weekly counseling lessons while we are apart! Please be sure to sign up to Parent Access to receive announcements of new lesson postings on my Canvas sight. This week's lesson focuses on conflict resolution. With all of us in close quarters, it is one your family won't want to miss!
Expanded and Free Internet Resources
The Texas Cable Association released information on free broadband and internet services, describing steps to enable and expand access to broadband. All four Texas Cable Association members have pledged to not cut off broadband or telephone service to any customers, even those unable to pay their bills; waive late fees incurred because of their economic circumstances related to the Coronavirus pandemic; and open their Wi-Fi hotspots to all.

What can you expect from our campus?
Due to the ever changing situation regarding COVID-19, and in the best interest of the health, safety, and well-being of its students, staff, and the community, Buckalew is closed March 16, 2020 through May 4, 2020 Buckalew will continue to work under limited operations during this school closure.
Buckalew specific updates will continue to be shared via our Buckalew Buzz, campus website, campus facebook page, and email blasts. If you are a parent of a current student, please make sure to reach out to your child's homeroom teacher as they are available to support you and your student and answer specific grade level and class information. You may also email contactbuckalew@conroeisd.net for a response.
Mondays-
- Teachers will email you direct content and expectations. This is not meant to overwhelm you but to support you at home. Starting THIS Monday, they will be emailing you a weekly zoom link to build connections with the homeroom. If it is too overwhelming for you as a parent or your child during this time, please know we are here for you in as many capacities as we can. This will be the recommendation for the WEEK ahead, not each day, by each grade level.
- Paper Copies for the week will be made available at 11:00AM each Tuesday. Our student packets will be stored in filing cabinets labeled by grade level under the car rider line patio. The packets will be available for pick up throughout the week. For safety of all, please remember to utilize social distancing when picking up packets.
- Packets are an alternative to the online platform. It can be in lieu of online opportunities your teacher is providing, or can be additional. It is here to support home learning.
- Items that you may have left at school and need to have access to can be picked up. Please email your child's teacher what/where the item is located and we will make sure it is ready for pick up on that following Tuesday.
Tuesdays & Thursdays-
- Conroe ISD will be distributing free meals to students 10am-1pm at The Woodlands High School and The Woodlands College Park.
Fridays- A Remote Learning Buzz with a weekly "announcement video" will be sent out with weekly updates from our entire campus. We are hoping to continue our Picture Perfect Friday Videos. An email link and FB link will be posted each Friday (we need your help, please email pictures to tonsmith@conroeisd.net)
Immediate Communication
Our teams are working extremely hard to streamline all instruction so it is exactly the same across each grade level. As a campus, we ask that you work directly with your child's homeroom teacher as we work out these logistics and get each student what they need at this time. We are a new online school, learning how to operate, so we are trying to establish consistent routines.
Question and Answers
As the COVID-19 is ever-evolving and we are in unknown territory nation-wide, please understand we do not have all of the answers yet, but we hope to navigate this together. This is the most current information as of 4/3/20.
Dyslexia, Special Education, 504 students, GT, ELL, and other services:
The teacher(s) supporting your child should have reached out to you personally to provide updates that they have received. If you have not heard from them yet, please feel free to email them directly.
Support
We are here for you and your family and are trying to keep it is simple as possible while continuing to connect remotely with your children. We miss you dearly and hope you are able to join us on this journey together, but if it is too much too soon, we understand. Kathleen Points, Buckalew's Guidance Counselor, along with your child's homeroom teacher are your first contact to provide support.
Completed Work
Teachers will be accepting work in an online format as well as a paper version. For now, please hold onto all paper versions.
Testing/Assessments
We have no plans to give tests or assessments to your child as we navigate this remotely at this time and we are awaiting further guidance from TEA at this time.
