Our Mission

The Spencer Community is devoted to developing every child's ability to succeed.

Spencer Windows Treated

The windows at Spencer were treated with a shatterproof film over Spring Break, so because of the special treatment that was applied, we can no longer apply tape or adhesives of any kind to the windows. Please see Lee Ann in the office if you need to post anything on the windows. Thanks for your cooperation.

Donation Request for the Clinic

The clinic is in need of boys pants in smaller sizes (5/6 or 6/7). If you have gently used items that you no longer need, we will put them to good use. Thank you.

Request From the Secretaries

Thank you for sending in notes with you child for any changes in their daily schedule. Please allow a little extra time for a pick up during the school day. For example, if your child has an appointment, please request a pickup time that allows the possibility of having to locate your child in the building or outside. Teachers do make every effort to accommodate requests, but an elementary classroom is an active environment and it is difficult to send each child down to the office at the exact time requested. A reminder from the office may also be needed, so please allow that in your pick up timeline.

Request from the Office Staff

Please remember to send your child(ren) to school with proper footwear. We are seeing an increase in the amount of injuries in the clinic when students wear boots or shoes with a higher heel on them. Please also refrain from sending students to school in open toe sandals or flip flops when the weather warms up. Students are very active at school and wearing the proper foot attire keeps them safe and injury free.

New Sign-in System

Dear Spencer Families,

The Raptor System will be installed at Spencer within the week. This system supports our district’s safe schools initiative. Please read below for details. Starting this Monday, March 11, please make sure you are prepared to visit our building with the new system by having your ID ready. Thank You!

Sincerely,

Bill Renner

Spencer Elementary Principal

The Raptor system is being installed in all Brighton schools to supplement the district’s program of campus safety for students and staff. Part of keeping students and faculty safe is knowing who is in our buildings at all times, and the Raptor system will allow us to do that. Raptor will better inform us of the visitors, contractors, and volunteers seeking entry into our schools, and provide us with a safer environment for our students and staff.

The visitor process will appear like this:

  • Upon entering a district building, visitors will be asked to present an ID, which may be scanned or manually entered into the system.

  • If a parent or guardian does not have government-issued identification, the school staff member can ask to see another form of ID and manually enter the person’s name into the Raptor system to perform a background check. The Raptor system only checks the visitor's name and date of birth, no other data from the ID is gathered or recorded, and the information is not shared with any outside agency.

  • Once an entry is approved, Raptor will issue a badge that identifies the visitor, the date, and the purpose for his/her visit.

It’s important to note that a visitor’s badge will not be necessary for those who visit our schools simply to drop off an item in the office or pick up paperwork. If a person does not have identification, he/she can still be given access to the building but will be escorted by a school staff member.

To learn more about the Raptor visitor management system, please visit the Raptor

Technologies website at www.raptortech.com. If you have any questions for district

personnel, please contact Police Liaison Office Christopher Parks at (810) 299-4100.

The safety of our students is our highest priority and the Raptor visitor management

the system provides a consistent means for keeping away people who may present a

danger to our students. We want to thank our community in advance for your

understanding and support for enhancing building safety protocols in Brighton Area

Schools.

Placement Consideration

It is hard to believe that it is already time to begin the process of placing students with teachers for the 2019/20 school year. Although teacher styles may differ from teacher to teacher, the content of the curriculum remains the same within the grade level. A great deal of time and effort is given to grouping children into classes. Our primary concern is to establish productive, balanced classrooms where each child has the opportunity to be successful and is challenged to do their best. If you feel you have compelling information to contribute to the placement decision, our Placement Consideration Forms are available in the office. Please complete the form and submit it to the main office by April 30, 2019. This additional information will help assist us in the construction of balanced classrooms. Please remember that requests for a specific teacher cannot be honored.

Lunch

It looks as if the Pizza Lunchables are a big hit! They are convenient and just the right sizes to fit in student's lunchboxes. The challenging part can be the creation of the pizzas and the wait time to warm them up in the microwave. Some students spend a lot of time making the perfect creation and then have to wait to use the microwave to warm up their special lunch. I share this with you just in case your child comes home, and they are a bit more hungry. It might be because of the extra time it took to make or the wait time.
