Havelock North Primary School - 13th September 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou,
With the sad passing of the Queen, the NZ flag will remain at half mast until the day after the Queen's state funeral.
This week we welcome our new students; Dulcie and Francesca. Well done on making such a great start to school everyone!
Camps
This week is catch-up camp week for those classes who were impacted by Covid 19 in Term 1. The weather does look a little challenging over the course of the week, but hopefully our students get to experience as many of the outdoor challenges as possible.
Year 5's are heading to Guthrie Smith at Lake Tutira, while the Year 6 team venture to Highland Home in the Pohangina Valley in the Manawatu.
Monday - Wednesday Room 13, 26 & 27 camps
Wednesday - Friday14th - 16th - Room 24 & 25 camps
Tutoring
Some families opt to get external tutoring for their children with some of these sessions taking place during school hours. If tutoring is taking place during the school day please ensure the classroom teacher is aware of this, as your child will be missing some aspects of the daily programme. Please encourage the tutor to make contact with the teacher if there is anything we need to be aware of. It is really important that the tutor, teacher and family are on the same page so we can work together for the good of the student. Thank you.
EnviroSchools Silver Reflection
It was amazing for the school to gain our Enviro status silver status last week. A huge thank you to Sue Jarvis for her amazing leadership and our wonderful students, staff and wider community who have made this recognition a reality.
Greenlock Exchange
Last Friday we hosted Greenmeadows School in Rugby, Netball, Hockey and Football. It was a tough competition with lots of tight games. Greenmeadows came away with wins in Netball and Boys' football, While HNPS took out the Rugby, Hockey and Girls' football to retain the Greenlock trophy 3-2.
The result aside, the real highlight was the wonderful spirit this event was played in. A huge thank you to coaches & supporters for a wonderful event. A special thank you to Mrs Cooper, Mrs Cranswick and Mr Bain for their great organisation.
Quote of the week
One hundred years from now
It won't matter what kind of car you drove
What kind of house you lived in
How much money you had in the bank
Nor what clothes you wore
BUT....
The world may be a little better
Because you were important in the life of a child.

Have a great week everyone.

Positive Behaviour For Learning
Focus for the next few weeks is...
- We respect others' privacy
- We leave it clean and tidy
- We wash our hands
It is important to teach our children the appropriate behaviour in the toilets. Like any behaviour, we can't just expect children to know what to do. This is why we teach our tamariki the expected behaviours in the toilets.
Enviro Corner - Week 8
It is official - Silver Enviro status.
Such a fabulous team effort - Nga Mihi!
What a privilege it was to take our enviro facilitators around the school to hear and witness student passion and empowerment for learning and sustainable action. There was a real sense of pride and belonging felt by students, staff and our community.
Thank you team for the tireless work you do for the good of our students.
Good Caps
Well done! HNP’s running total as of 9 September is:
Plastic 46.75 kgs
Metal 132.75 kgs
Overall, we’ve collected over 1.7 tonnes of lids and caps so far from all schools involved in Good Caps! Wow, all that waste was diverted from landfill:)
