School Directory Information and Opt-Out
Broken Arrow plans to offer a school-wide directory for use by our parents and students. Many families find a school directory helpful as they plan activities such as play dates, birthday parties, carpools and events outside of school hours. The directory will include student names, household phone number, household address, and one parent email.
If you DO NOT want to be included in the directory, please let Mrs Walthall know by Monday Sept 26. Email mwalthal@usd497.org or 785-832-5600.
USD 497 designates some information as Directory Information, which can be shared. When you enroll or complete Annual Registration, you acknowledge that you have read the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). FERPA allows parents and legal guardians to withdraw consent to share directory information. This includes use for school yearbooks, team rosters, school directories, music programs, among other school publications.
Note: The school district is legally obligated not to disclose foster, or group home student’s directory information.
Anyone wishing to opt-out of disclosing all Directory Information must complete a Nondisclosure of Student Directory Information Form, and office staff will input the form into PowerSchool with the guardian’s answers. Please reach out to Mrs Walthall by phone or email to ask questions or to complete a form.
For people who want to keep information out of the directory, please clarify if you want to opt out of "this directory only" or if you want to complete the Nondisclosure of Directory Information Form. Mrs Walthall can help you with either option.

Broken Arrow Garden Update
Here is the LPS Farm to School update for the last week of September!
Donations needed! We need empty toilet paper rolls (the cardboard part) for a 4th grade bird seed project! If you have extras between now and October 5, please send them to school with your student! Mrs. Epperson will collect them for our projects.
Are you interested in volunteering in the garden during our activity time on Wednesdays? Let Mrs. Epperson know by emailing her at mepperso@usd497.org! Grade levels are taking turns with projects, clean up, and scavenger hunts out in the garden space, and extra hands are always appreciated! We are in the garden space between 12:30-1:30 most Wednesdays through November. No garden experience necessary, just an interest in helping guide students through the activities. Contact Mrs. Epperson for details and to arrange a time.
----STAFF SPOTLIGHT----
Mrs. Kennedy-School Nurse
Mrs. Walthall- Administrative Assistant
I have been at Broken Arrow in the front office since 2018-19. I was the administrative assistant at Kennedy previously, and worked at Broken Arrow for many years as a clerical aide after being a full-time mom. I feel called to help how I can with children and families, and I am proud to call this school home.
Outside the school, I spend my time in mostly domestic pursuits, such as reading, sewing and outdoor fun. I have three grown children all with hearts of service: two in nursing at St Francis Hospital, and a firefighter/paramedic right in town. I am Nana to FIVE little people, two of whom were born in the past year. My sweet hubby and I met decades ago while attending Lawrence High School and we are invested in our community.
