Behavior Tip of the Week: Students talking without permission
Watch as one educator explains that when we break our attention away from the students who appropriately gain it (to correct a student who is not appropriately gaining our attention), we provide a somewhat negative effect for kids who were showing the desired behaviors we expect. The video provides simple and quick trick for teaching desired behavior for talking out students.
Did you know? We have access to the PRIM here on campus. What is the PRIM? PRIM stands for the Pre-Referral Intervention Manual.
PRIM Strategies for handling talking out or interrupting behaviors:
Strategy 130 - Bothers other students who are trying to work, listen, etc.
Strategy 210 - Talks to others during quiet activity periods
Link to suggested strategies for these behaviors can be found here...

Open House - February 24th
On Wednesday, February 24, we will be hosting an open house and book fair for incoming 5th and 6th grade students. Our counselors have been advertising this since we returned from the break and we expect a great turn out. All teachers need to make plans now to attend this event.
In addition, each department and elective will need to have representation at a table in the gym on this day. It is scheduled to last from 4:30 - 6:00. Each group can work out a schedule to provide coverage so that teachers can also be with their teams. I want at least 2 people at every table. We do not need to provide handouts or make any copies. We can direct people to our websites or link them through QR Codes.
This is scheduled as College Day, but we will move this to another date. All teachers should wear their green OW Polo with dark pants, slacks or skirts.
SPED Progress Reports
Sped Progress Reports for the 4th 6 weeks will go out 2/10/16 and are due back 2/17/16.

5th grade teachers: Please remember to get me any room corrections for STAAR testing by February 16.
Our elective teachers (Band, Choir and Orchestra), will have an elective assembly for current 5th grade students on March 2, 2016 during 5th grade PE classes. Our current Band, Choir and Orchestra students (6th graders) will present to the 5th graders so they can become familiar with the elective opportunities available to them next year. The wheel (Music, Art and Drama) will still be an elective option next year, but they will not attend this assembly.
Since there will be several 6th graders (around 200) involved in the presentation we need your help! 6th graders will need to eat between B and C lunch that day. This means they will leave 4th period early (around 12:10-12:12:15) and be gone for the remainder of the day. They will perform 5th period, 6th period and 7th period.
As this time gets closer, we will be reminding those students presenting to make plans to make-up work or get work they will miss from their teachers so they do not fall behind in their classes. It is the student's responsibility to get with their teacher regarding make-up work.
A list will be sent out in the near future of all the students who will be excused from your class on this day. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks for letting your students set an example for our incoming 6th graders!
