Washington Elementary (11/4/22)
It's GREAT to be a Washington Expolorer!
November 4, 2022
Dear Washington Families,
Parent-Teacher conferences are coming up this month and we look forward to the opportunity to share your students' progress and partner with you. Conferences are November 18, 21, and 22. Classroom teachers will notifiy families of thier scheduled conference time. An email reminder will be sent from the office. Please contact the office if you need to reschedule your conference. We look forward to seeing you!
At the end of October, we had a building wide progress monitoring day where all students visited the gym and practiced reading nonsense words or a short passage while being timed. Our Explorers did amazing! I had the privilege of read with several of our intermediate students. Before reading, they shared with me their personal goal. It was so exciting to see students meet and exceed their personal goals. After the first 7 weeks of school we are averaging 70% of students in each grade level on track to meet end of year benchmark in reading! Our incredible staff are intentional with their reading instruction- cultivating student engagment, providing lots of opportunities for students to get in important repetitions, and they are watching student data closely to make intentional instructional adjustments. I am so proud of the students and staff at Washington for this work!
Please take a look at the rest of our newsletter. There is important information about upcoming events, student attendance, and holiday help.
Sincerely,
Gelinda Williams

Upcoming PTA Meeting
Thank you for getting involved with our school's PTA. Currently, we are working with Washington State PTA to get officially (re)established.
In the meantime, we want to keep the momentum going and would love to meet again. There are lots of things we can get started on and accomplish as we continue to pursue our PTA "revival." The most important thing is getting our families involved at Washington.
We hope to see everyone for a meeting on Tuesday, November 8 at 6:00 pm.
We will meet in the library here at Washington.
We will have Spanish speaking staff present.
Thanks again and we will see you soon!
5th Grade Basketball
Our basketball teams have been practicing hard to prepare for the October games against other schools. Each group’s teamwork and game skills have led to some exciting wins. We are very proud of the player effort and school spirit shown at all our games this season! Thanks for a great basketball season!

Attendance Matters Every Day!
Students need appropriate bedtimes, morning routines, and breakfast. Free breakfast and lunch is provided daily at Washington. If your student complains about not wanting to go to school, reach out to our office staff and we would be happy to work with you and provide support.
Missing only 15 days (about 1.5 days per month) in a school year has been proven to negatively impact the chance that your student can read or do math at grade-level. Consistent attendance is the foundation to success at school and is essential for student achievement and well-being.Holiday Help
Each year we are contacted by families requesting help during the holidays. Please take a look at the community agencies offering assistance and reach out if you need additional support.
