Robins K-8
September Newlsetter
A Message from the Principal
Hello Robins K-8 Families,
YES! We have successfully completed the month of August! Thank you for allowing us to partner with you in the academic success of your child. I thank you all for coming out to our “Back to School Nights” last month and now onto Parent/Techer Conferences next week. I am excited about what this year will bring for each of our students. We are preparing for our first reading and math district wide assessment for grades 2nd-8th. We have completed our reading assessment (DIBELS) for grades K-3rd and will share individual student results at your parent/teacher conference. We have shared with our students the Student Code of Conduct, Dress Code Policies and our PBIS “Roadrunner Rocks” expectations of being Safe, Responsible and Respectful. I encourage you to reach out to our fabulous PTO to support their efforts as they are the backbone to our success for a community moving forward to benefit all students, “It takes a village”. We welcome all parent volunteers to schedule a time with their child’s teacher to help the teacher in class or out of class. We look forward to seeing you next week at our Parent/Teacher conferences. Please remember that school on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday is dismissed for all Elementary and Middle School students at 11:45 a.m. Students will receive a full 30 minutes to consume their lunch. There will be no outside play on these days due to the limited instructional time. This month is “National Hispanic-Latino Heritage Month from September 15th- October 15th and “Dia de la Independencia” on September 16th. We are featuring some wonderful books on display in our library that celebrate the Hispanic culture and heritage. We invite you to come check them out. See you at Literacy Night on 9/14.
REMINDERS:
· Pick-Up, please remember to park in the parking lots and not in the fire lane. Unattended vehicles or those in the fire lane cause obstructions and slow traffic.
· During drop-off, please have students exit the vehicle on the passenger side, so they avoid oncoming traffic.
· Please make sure your pick-up signs are in the window of your vehicle. This will make pick-up go much faster.
· Please do not drop off students at the front of the school. There is a large sign stating, “no drop off” and barriers to ensure student safety. Please full forward to drop off in the designated areas.

A Message from the Library
Hey, all!
Last month was a great month and it looks like we are finally getting into the swing of things. I did want to say that for the most part, you scholars rock! You’ve behaved well and have been gentle when picking out your books. Keep up the great work!
I should be adding some new books to the catalogue very soon, so watch out for that. Look for them in the New Arrival section on top of the shelves at the front of the library. Not all will be brand new, but they will be new to us.
I’ve noticed the graphic novels are flying off the shelf. I agree they are very fun to read, but I challenge you scholars to pick at least one chapter book without pictures. Most authors do somewhat paint the environment with words, but believe it or not, we all still see it differently. This is the story happening in your very own imagined world, with a little help from the author. You can step into the shoes of the characters—you can experience their thoughts and feelings as you turn the pages!
The book fair was a success. It was really cool seeing all of the reading tickets you guys turned in for a new book! Although the book fair is over at the school, you can still shop online at our book fair homepage up until the 19th at our scholastic home page www.scholastic.com/bf/robinsk8school
Here's to a great rest of September.
See you in the library!
