Hello, Intended-Grady students!
We have some exciting events and opportunities coming up that I wanted to make sure you all know about. If you're still exploring options for career paths, I strongly encourage you to consider applying for the First- and Second-Year Career Trek. If you'd like a hands-on internship, look more into our office's internship program for next year, as well.
This newsletter will be a way for me to share career-related information. This includes Career Center events, events and other ways to connect with employers, ways to gain experience for your resume, and other career tips. Be on the lookout for it every other week.

Drop-Ins Schedule
Career Center drop-in hours in the Journalism Building have resumed on the regular schedule. They will be every Tuesday and Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. in Journalism, Room 309-D. Drop-ins are 10-15-minute meetings, with students seen on a first-come, first-served basis.
Topics that can be discussed can be anything career-related, including major choice/Grady application process, scholarship and similar applications, part-time job search, discussing summer plans, resume and cover letters, quick interview prep and any other similar concerns.
Journalism Building drop-ins will continue on these days (unless otherwise noted via email) until the last day of classes, Wednesday, April 25.
If these times don’t work with your schedule, the Career Center hosts drop-in hours in Clark Howell Hall every day from 12-2 p.m.
Intern with the Career Center Next Year!
The UGA Career Center is seeking candidates for the Career Development Internship for the upcoming 2018 – 2019 school year! We are looking for hardworking students interested in using their creativity and skills to facilitate Career Center operations. The application is open to rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors of all majors.
Grady and Intended-Grady students are strongly encouraged to apply, as there are regular needs in the Career Center for marketing and communications of 50+ events each semester.

First- and Second-Year Career Discovery Trek
Hosted by the UGA Career Center
Friday, March 23rd 2018
9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Visit: Amazon | Aldi | Nuci’s Space
Are you a first- or second-year student that wants to learn more about what careers are out there? The Career Center will be taking 30 first- and second-year students to Nuci’s Space, Amazon, and Aldi on a full-day trek Friday, March 23rd. This trek will give you the chance to learn about different career paths, and hear from over 10+ professionals in a day!
You’ll have a chance to:
1. Learn about typical career paths in non-profits and corporations.
2. Grow confidence through engaging and speaking with employers.
3. Discover how the Career Center can help you with internships and careers.
Join us for a great trip! Open to all first- and second-year students in any major!
Dress is casual, but please note there should be no athletic wear.
Please come prepared for day and pack or bring money for lunch. (We will be stopping at a Chick-fil-A.)
Please take your registration spot seriously. If you cancel at the last minute (within 48 hours) the Career Center will block your Handshake account, and require you to pay a $15.00 fee.
Reminder: You are responsible for arranging any time off with professors if you have classes on this day.
UGA Summer Job and Internship Fair - March 21

Are you seeking a summer job or internship? Make plans to attend the UGA Summer Job & Internship Fair! You'll have an opportunity to connect with employers from a wide variety of industries seeking to hire students for both summer jobs and internship opportunities.

To schedule an appointment, call (706) 542-3375. Samantha covers Career Center walk-in hours on Mondays, from 12-2 p.m. in Clark Howell Hall. You can also stop by drop-in hours every Tuesday and Wednesday in Journalism, room 309-D from 1-3 p.m.
Receive assistance with resumes, statements of interest, cover letters, job search strategies, interviewing, applying to graduate school and any other career-related topics. Printed copies of materials are preferred.
Please note that the last week of drop-in hours will be the week after Thanksgiving break. They will resume as usual the first full week of classes in January.

Samantha Meyer Bio
Samantha joined the UGA Career Center in December 2014 as a Career Consultant for the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. Samantha is a proud "Double Dawg" and Grady graduate, with Bachelor's degrees in public relations and women's studies, and a Master's degree through the Grady ADPR 4+1 program. During her time as a student at the University of Georgia, Samantha was on UGA's PRSSA Bateman team and was a member of the Demosthenian Literary Society, as well as the Women's Studies Student Organization, where she helped plan the annual Athens Take Back the Night event. She is delighted to be able to work with Grady students. Go Dawgs!
