A Message from Principal Patel
Dear Lu Sutton Community,
I hope you are adjusting to the time change and enjoying the longer day light!
As you are aware, we are celebrating Neurodiversity Week! Throughout the district, students and staff are celebrating this week by engaging in fun lessons and dressing up to celebrate neurodiversity.
Neurodiversity is the celebration of our amazing brains! This week we would like to celebrate our differences and the many different ways each of us engage in the world. Please take a moment to ask your child about what they are learning this week and encourage them to dress up each day (listed below)!
Here are some You Tube read aloud stories to support your conversations at home. Enjoy!
In Community,
Mira Patel

Focus on Attendance
- Plan vacations during scheduled breaks (calendar at the bottom).
- Bring a Doctor's note when your child misses school for an appointment.
- Keep your child home if they are sick and call in to communicate the reason for their absence. 24 Hour Attendance Line: (415) 897-4196
GOOD JOB! As a school, Average Daily Attendance Rate has increased to 93%. This rate is critical to your child's educational growth and our school funding. We would like to see our site reach a goal of a 97% Average Daily Attendance Rate. Let's keep focused on this goal and support our students' educational journey!
A Message from the PTA
Hello Cheetah families,
As I mentioned in previous newsletters, we are approaching a very busy time of year for both PTA and school activities and events. The time between mid-winter and spring break has many student and family engagement events on the calendar and we hope you can join us! Please continue reading below to see the details, dates and volunteer opportunities available. It truly takes a team effort to make these events run smoothly.
I’d like to thank the many families that made it out to the Community Garden Work Day despite the pouring rain this past Saturday. The group worked together to shovel and lay new mulch in the school garden and check off some of the to-do list tasks. I truly appreciate the help. We will schedule another garden work day in a few weeks- hopefully on a day without rain!
In gratitude,
Erin Compton
Lu Sutton PTA President
Save the Date: STEAM Night!
Family STEAM Night at Lu Sutton is on Friday, March 24th from 6:00-8:00pm.
What is STEAM? Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math.
What is Family STEAM Night? It will be an evening of hands-on science, technology, engineering, art and math activities for students and families to complete by working together. STEAM night activities will be set up at tables or stations and will have instructions and/or suggestions that are appropriate for students of all ages, but some may need a little help from a grownup. There will also be special guests, displays and demonstrations for everyone to enjoy.
Family STEAM Night is a free event sponsored by the PTA. There will be a slime making station where guests can create their own slime to take home. This table will charge a small fee of $5.00 per batch of slime to cover the cost of the slime making materials and supplies.
Please RSVP to the event using this link: https://www.parentsquare.com/feeds/18674554
5th grade will have food and drinks for sale during STEAM Night. All proceeds will benefit their end of the year activities
Volunteers Needed! March 24th for STEAM Night
Volunteers Needed! The Book Fair
The PTA is looking for volunteers to help at our Spring Book Fair. We need help with setting up the fair, running the fair after school, and help closing down the fair. This is a great way to get involved on campus. Volunteering at the book fair is fun and easy, and there’s no experience needed!
This year’s Spring Book Fair will have a special evening shopping opportunity on Friday, March 24th during the Family STEAM Night. We will need volunteers to help with sales from 6:00-8:00pm.
Please sign up to volunteer in Parent Square at this link: https://www.parentsquare.com/feeds/189251645th Grade Outdoor Education Fundraising with See's Candies
Please help support the 5th graders! Money raised will help lower the cost per student in their annual overnight field trip!
Scan the QR code with your phone to place an order or visit the website below. See's will ship directly to you (or as a gift to a loved one!). Please feel free to share this with whomever will enjoy it and thank you for your support!

Drop Off/ Pick Up Reminders
The Round-Abouts are for drop off and pick up only. Please do not park in these areas.
You must follow all traffic laws and remain patient as we prioritize the safety of our community. We appreciate your diligence in following these procedures.
Drop Off:
For those dropping off by car, please continue moving through the round about. Once you are at a complete stop, have your child ready to exit the vehicle. This will reduce traffic and make for better traffic flow. Please remain in your car. You may also legally park across the street and walk your child to campus. All gates are accessible in the morning.
Pick Up:
For the quickest pick up, please park legally across the street and walk up to campus. You may wait out front or go directly to your child's class for pick up. For those who chose to use the Round-About, please remain in your car. We will work quickly to get students to you and ask for your patience.
IT Help
Instructional Technology Updates
Updated IT website: Videos including Chromebook Care (and instructions for students to power wash their Chromebook which resolves many of their problems in just a couple minutes). https://nusd.org/information-technology/
Student device needs to be repaired: Student should turn in the device to the office, and they will receive a library loaner and charger while IT picks it up, assesses, and repairs the device. If the device is repairable, we will return the device (and any needed invoicing for parts), and the student will turn in their loaner and claim back their own device.
