WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP CLIMATE CHANGE
WHAT IS CLIMATE CHANGE?
Climate change Is a rising issue that needs to be STOPPED! Climate change is rising levels of carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping gases in the atmosphere which warm the earth and cause wide-ranging impact, including rising sea levels; melting ice; more extreme heat events, fires and drought; and more extreme storms, rainfall and floods. Our climate is changing very fast, faster than we have seen in the last 2,000 years. The climate is tied to many systems and can affect many aspects such as where and how people, plants and animals live, food production, availability and use of water and health risks. It could be very dangerous if it keeps impacting the world as it is now.(http://www.ecy.wa.gov/climatechange/whatis.htm)
RESULTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE
All around the world seasons are changing. Temperatures are climbing and sea levels are rising and at the same time our planet still has to have enough resources for everything and everyone to live on it. The heat is not only melting glaciers and sea ice but it is also shifting perception patterns and forcing animals to move. With the climate changing, it will have an impact on the cost to fix all the damages from storms and other natural disasters.(http://www.nature.org/ourinitiatives/urgentissues/global-warming-climate-change/threats-impacts/)
INCREASED RISK OF DROUGHT, FIRE AND FLOODS
HIGHER TEMPERATURES
STRONGER STOMS AND INCREASED STORM DAMAGE
EMPEROR PENGUIN
The Emperor Penguin is a large, slow penguin that lives in Antarctica. It's life is being altered by the changing climate. The Emperor Penguin is the largest of all penguins. It is the only animal to inhabit the open ice of Antarctica during the winter. The penguin has small bills and flippers which can help them conserve heat. The estimated world population is 595,000. There are no nesting supplies available for the penguin so they use their own bodies to create a warm environment for their eggs. (https://cmsdata.iucn.org/downloads/fact_sheet_red_list_emperor.pdf)
IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON EMPEROR PENGUIN
The climate change is having a big affect on the emperor penguin population, it's main threat is the sea ice melting which is where the penguins breed and raise their young. Global warming will cut the large emperor penguin population which is about 600,000 penguins by at least a fifth by 2100 as the sea ice becomes less secure. If the sea ice breaks up then and disappears when breeding season starts the amount of penguins will decrease a lot and may diminish slowly until 2040.The penguin depends on extremely cold regions because it is what they walk on, if it melts at fast rates their natural environment will change. If the heat gets warmer the penguins will want to spend more time in the water to cool off which will make it more likely of them to be eaten by predators. Some ways you can help the emperor penguins is by reducing carbon emissions which lead to global warming. You can contribute to helping them by walking, biking or taking public transportation instead of driving and recycling, and not eating manufactured and packaged goods.
