Dear Winter Park Band families,

Great job to everyone on our first gameday of the year this past Friday! I'm very proud of how the students carried themselves and performed throughout the evening. Even though we got a little bit wet from the rain, I loved watching everyone have a ton of fun! It was also great to catch up with and hang out with the Lake Nona HS band. They did a great job too!

Two huge thank-yous that need to be handed out this week. First of all, THANK YOU to our parent chaperones for accompanying the Band on Friday evening, especially our Chaperone Coordinator Robyn Fodor. We had a very smooth night, and much of that is thanks to all of your help! Secondly, THANK YOU to everyone who donated water this week. Mr. Smith and I will tally the total and announce the winning section later this week.

This week, the varsity football team plays out of state so we do not have a performance on Friday evening. Regular rehearsals will continue on Tuesday evening and Thursday afternoon, and we will begin to add onto what we know of our show so far! Looking forward to getting back to it - hard to believe we move into September later this week!

Fair Share Payment 2 come due this week on Wednesday, August 31. Please see below in the Finances and Cut Time section for details, and please stay current on all Band financial matters.

We have had a lot of Program Ad sales coming in over the past couple weeks! I hope everyone continues to take advantage of this wonderful fundraising opportunity. Please see Julie Capps' section of the Newsletter below for more information. Sales and Sponsorships are due 9/9.

Registrations are now being accepted for the NYC Tour 2023! See below in the NYC Tour section for instructions and links to required materials, which can also be found at Registrations for students and chaperones along with the initial deposit are due Friday, 9/9. Fundraising credit may be used for the initial deposit.

Lastly, Open Houses take place at the Main Campus Monday, 8/29 and 9GC Tuesday, 8/30. As a reminder, all Band classes take place on the Main Campus. If you are the parent of a 9th grader and plan to attend Open House, please plan on coming to the later part of Monday's event to see us in the Band room. You will be able to meet with your student's teachers at the 9GC on Tuesday evening while your student is at marching band rehearsal.

Hi Band! Wow! The Sound of the Wildcats sounded and looked GREAT at Showalter on Friday night! Marching Season with this group of students and parents is going to be great!

Huge thanks to our team of parent chaperones. Kind of a soggy start to the season, but I hope you all had a great time and will return for more fun another Friday evening. Photos have been uploaded to the Winter Park High School Band facebook page, so enjoy reviewing the rainy evening!

A huge shout out to the Uniform Squad! These little worker bees have ironed ALL of the marching uniforms during their Tuesday evening work parties .. that's a HUGE feat! Soooo appreciative of your diligent work! Yay Band Moms!

One more shout out to the quickly-formed (and short-lived) Water Jug Sticker Committee (who knew that little group had an official title?) .. who trimmed, stuck and sharpied all of the SOTW water jugs in about 2 hours time on Thursday .. Thank you to Robyn Fodor, Andrea Rediske, Heather Ribaric and Laura Cambridge for your efficient and speedy help!

2022-2023 Florida All-State Audition Registration

For those students intending to audition, please fill out the form below completely to register for your 2022-2023 Florida All-State Ensemble Audition. If you wish to audition for both a concert band and a jazz ensemble, you will need to fill out this form twice. Also, if you wish to audition on multiple instruments for any ensemble, you will need to fill out this form for each audition you will perform.

Register for your audition no later than Tuesday, 8.30.22.

Program Ads and Sponsorships Fundraiser - Due 9/9

Hello WPHS Band Families!

***Raise Money Now to Offset your Fair Share Payments and NYC Trip Costs!***

The season for selling ads in the Winter Park High Band program is well underway. If you are not familiar with this program, the Winter Park Band Concert Program features pictures of the Band as well as information about the band’s instructor and members. The program is distributed free at all concerts throughout the school year and includes local business ads, student dedications and sponsorships purchased by local businesses and families.

With the band scheduled to take a group trip to New York City in June 2023, it is important you understand how purchasing or selling an ad in the band program can help you save money on that trip. Any ad sold by your student can help defray your financial obligations to Band, including payment for the NYC trip. Once payment for the ad is received, the student’s Band account will be credited with 60% of the ad revenue that he/she sells, depending on the Band’s printing cost.

Here's how selling just one ad can benefit you:

  • Sell a full-page ad ($325) to your kid’s orthodontist? You’ll get an estimated $195 credit on your account that can then be used toward the cost of the NYC trip.
  • Celebrate your Band Student with a ½ page student dedication? While the ad will cost you $175, you will then get a credit back of roughly $105 that can go back towards your payments to band. This is especially popular with Senior families, but the family of any student can put a shoutout into the program.

The three types of advertising available are:

  • Business Ad: Connect your local business or a business you frequent with audiences attended WPHS band performances throughout the school year.
  • Student Dedication: Celebrate your student’s participation in the WPHS band program with a ¼, ½ or full-page ad that can include multiple pictures.
  • Sponsorship: Become a “Friend of Winter Park Band” with a monetary donation and recognition on the sponsorship list. This is a great option for family and friends who ask how they can support your student in band.

The deadline for selling or purchasing an ad is quickly approaching. So that the program can be printed in time for the first home concert, all ads must be purchased or sold by Friday, September 9, 2022. Forms for the ad program can be accessed on the WPHS Band website by clicking About>Band Boosters. All files are located under the section Program Ads and Sponsors 2022.

    Viewing your Student's Financial Account in CutTime:

    There is a direct link to CutTime in "Quick Links" on the band website.

    To access Cut Time, follow these steps.

    • Go to and click “SIGN IN” in the top right-hand corner.
    • Enter your Username or Email and Password You are now on your profile, where you can access our calendar and handouts and files. Click “Update Info” tab to input or update contact information. Don’t forget to click “Update” when you are finished.
    • Click the “Finances” tab to view financial statements.

    Big picture

    Pride of the Wildcats - Winter Park Band Fleet Vehicle Support and Improvement

    We are very proud of our Operations side of the Winter Park Band. We have a dedicated group of parents that take the Winter Park Band & Color Guard to all their events. However, without the use of the large tractor trailer that transports our equipment to and from each marching band event and the small trailer for color guard the task would be next to impossible.

    Through the years, the operations group has made many changes to the trailers to improve the functionality for the Winter Park Band. Historically, all of the monies have been raised through private contributions of a select groups of parents and through the Alumni Foundation. Because of this the need of a full fundraiser event to deflect the cost of the band operations was never really until now.

    In effort to maintain our large trailer’s top-notch condition, we are planning to do some MAJOR repairs and improvements to the trailer that is now in its 15th year of service for WPHS band. Additionally, we need to either replace (preferable) the small trailer or make it road worthy again.

    Some of the items on our list of improvements are costly, including:

    • Repairing some minor damage to larger trailer
    • Repainting the lower section of the large trailer
    • Rewrapping the upper section of the large trailer
    • Replace wheel bearings on front axle
    • Moving the back stairway to the back of the trailer
    • Replacing or repairing the small trailer
    • And other improvements to keep our kids and volunteers safe.

    Since we are re-wrapping the large trailer, we will be selling sponsor spots on the larger trailer to defray the cost. There are 10 spots that are available for $1,000 each and the entire front of the trailer for $5,000. These opportunities are a great way to support the Winter Park Band and they are also tax deductible.
