Spreading Peace
Our South Ridge students are hard at work making peace ornaments, to spread throughout our amazing community. The students are each painting an ornament with their own unique art and words of peace.
While working on their ornament they listened to a book called Maybe Something Beautiful by Isabel Campoy and Theresa Howell. Maybe Something Beautiful is based on the true story of the Urban Art Trail in San Diego, California. The illustrator of this book, Rafael López, and his wife Candice brought hope, beauty and a strengthened sense of community to the East Village by turning the dark alleys into art .
Here at South Ridge we have been working hard to spread kindness, joy and positive messages throughout the school and are ready to spread it to the rest of our community! On January 3rd, we are hosting a hot cocoa drive through. We will also be handing out peace ornaments that will have directions on them to encourage families to hang the ornaments throughout Ridgefield. We have also partnered with some local businesses that will also be displaying the ornaments in their windows.
Together we can spread peace and beauty throughout our community that we all love so much!

Would You Rather?
Enjoy listening to your student choose a pathway, and justify their decision!
Prompts for discussion:
Would you rather have 10 minutes of free time at 9:00am and 15 minutes of free time at 10:00am, or have a half-hour of free time?
Why?
Would you rather have 8 quarters or two $1 bills?
Why?
Would you rather have 364 jellybeans and give 188 to friends, or have 281 jellybeans and give 137 to friends?

Snowmen At Work
By Caralyn Buehner
If you were a snowman, what job would you choose? Kids know that snowmen come alive at night while we humans sleep. They go sledding, they play baseball, and sometimes they have snowball fights. And now it’s revealed that snowmen don’t just play all night – they have jobs to do too, just like the parents of human kids.
While you’re sleeping, is your snowman working as…
A baker?
A dentist?
Maybe even a magician?
