Men of Distinction
Vol. 3, Ed. 11, 10.30.2018
Mr. Owens believes...
"As a nation, we are in need of educating EVERY child to their highest potential. We need to offer an avenue of hope and accomplishment to help children reach their goals. Mentorship has always been a part of my life and I hope that I will be able to leave a legacy of building up children so they won't become broken men. May our children leave us and go out into the world and make it a better place." ~ Mr. Melvin J. Owens
10 Good Things to Start Today...
Mr. Owens and Mr. McCann speaking to the MOD's about the 10 good things they could start today. The MODs collaborated with one another and shared some awesome experiences and things they are doing in their neighborhoods and with their teammates in sports.

LHS Harmon October 2018 Lunch and Learn
The Men of Distinction and their mentors had a great time breaking bread, catching up on stories from the last month, and discussing the message from Mr. Andy Plunkett, Assistant Chief of Schools, over "Pathway to College". Mr. Plunkett spoke about planning, financial aid, and building a better future. The "Top 10 List" he gave the MoDs are priceless and we are so happy that he gives of his time to these young men.

Durham MS October 2018 Lunch and Learn Meeting
It was a great day at Durham Middle School with guest speaker and fellow mentor, Mr. Tim Reese. Mr. Reese is the Chief Inspector for the Lewisville Fire Department. Thank you Mr. Reese for speaking on Dressing for Success. "The way you dress will set the tone in what people will think of you before you ever open your mouth. The way you dress will help you with the credibility of what you say." MODs were able communicate with their peers and mentors on ways to dress appropriately for any situation. Good discussions and I enjoyed seeing so many of them asking meaningful questions.
Mentorship is so important! We must continue to show them the way.
Durham MODs learning how to work together (Leadership Activity)
Mr. Dan Smith, MOD sponsor at Durham MS, took the MODs through a leadership activity. This was a way for them to get to know one another and learn about each others strengths. This activity was total hands off by Mr. Smith and he got to see a wonderful brotherhood form.
