A Message From Mrs. Booth...
We've had a great week learning together this week! We are looking forward to a great Homecoming Game tonight!
Did you know:
School attendance is essential beginning in kindergarten. Sometimes we don’t think that it is as important as good attendance in the upper grades because kindergarten is not mandatory in many states. But it is important to build a healthy habit of daily school attendance right from the beginning.
- Starting in kindergarten, too many absences can cause some children to fall behind in school.
- How many absences are too many? Chronic absence is defined as 18 days a year—or just 2 days a month.
- Missing 10 percent or about 18 days of the school year in kindergarten can lower achievement in 1st grade and, for some students, through 5th grade.
- Students can still fall behind if they keep missing just a day or two every few weeks.
Getting back into the habit of daily attendance matters more than ever as we recover from the pandemic. Going to school is an opportunity for your student to:
- Build routines that help reduce stress.
- Connect to their friends and teachers.
- Engage in learning.
Check out these great tips for setting a solid foundation for regular attendance:
- Set a regular bedtime and morning routine.
- Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
- Don’t let your child stay home unless he/she is truly sick. Keep in mind complaints of a stomach ache or headache can be a sign of anxiety and not a reason to stay home.
- If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors, or other parents for advice on how to make her feel comfortable and excited about learning.
- Develop some backup plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, a neighbor or another parent.
- Avoid medical appointments and extended trips when school is in session.

A Message from the PTA...
1. Invest In Your Child – CONGRATS to prize winners!!
Wow! So far 77 families have generously donated to our Invest In Your Child fundraiser. All children of families who donated were entered into a drawing to win our special prize: BE THE PRINCIPAL! The winners are:
· Mason Qaoud, Kindergarten
· Werner Watson, 5th grade
· Mila Khraizat, Kindergarten
· Juliana Hussein, 2nd grade
These four lucky winners get to BE THE PRINCIPAL! Mrs. Booth will invite each of them to come to the principal’s office, make announcements over the loudspeaker, visit classrooms, dismiss students for the end of the day, and other exciting principal duties!
A BIG thank you to all of our kindergarten and first grade families! They have the most contributors who have donated to Invest In Your Child. Congrats to all the kindergarteners and first graders – You will all get a BONUS recess time next week!
2. Invest In Your Child – Thank you and please keep supporting!
So far, we are at about 50% of the donations we received in 2017 and 2018. We are hoping to get back to our pre-pandemic levels so we can run all the fun and educational programs again.
What is Invest In Your Child? IIYC is the one, big, annual fundraiser that supports all the awesome PTA programs, events, and activities benefiting our school and community! We know that you already juggle so many fundraisers for your child’s sports teams and scouts, and probably can’t bear the thought of hitting up friends and family for another one. Instead of doing door-to-door sales, pledge-a-thons, or other big commitments, Silver Springs PTA simply asks families to make a one-time donation at the beginning of the year. With these generous donations from parents and families, the PTA is able to provide programs, events, activities, staff support, and school improvements throughout the entire year. No one is required to donate, and any amount is valued! The more people who donate, the more we can do for your students and our school! To learn more about how these funds benefit our school, visit our “Invest In Your Child” page. A paper copy of the flyer was sent home with your students, so look for that in your child’s backpack. You can donate online via MemberHub or by sending in the form to school, along with check or cash. Thank you!
Stay tuned to the Eagle Express and our social media for more announcements about donation incentives and prizes!
3. TRUNK OR TREAT: HELP WANTED!
We’d love to have a DJ for Trunk or Treat! Who can help us set the Halloween vibe for music, dancing, and fun? The planning committee is looking for a parent volunteer with DJ equipment (either professional or amateur sound equipment and possibly lights or other fun effects). Please contact us for more info: silverspringspta@gmail.com
We hope all Silver Springs families can join us for Trunk or Treat on Friday, October 21 from 6:00-7:30pm in the Silver Springs parking lot.
More details coming soon!
4. Birthday Lunches
The Birthday Lunch program is a fun way to celebrate your child’s special day and the funds raised from this program directly benefit PTA programs. Win-win! To sign up and select your date, parents may submit a request form and a donation (any amount) to the PTA. On your child’s day, you can come and join them for lunch! Some parents choose to bring a special lunch or a treat. You get to sit at the Birthday Lunch table near the MPR, which will be decorated with a tablecloth, birthday napkins, and party hats. For more info, visit the Parents & Families page of our website. Also, a paper copy of the flyer came home in your child’s backpack on the first day of school. *Please book soon, as dates will fill up! Also, please book at least two weeks in advance to ensure our volunteers are available.

Infectious Disease Response to COVID
2022-2023
Students and staff that contract COVID should follow the Health Department recommendations and isolate for five days from the date where symptoms were present or from the date of their positive rapid or pcr test. Isolation includes waiting to return to school until the isolation period has ended. It is also recommended that students or staff should wear a mask for 5 days past their isolation period.
Parents should notify their child’s school of the absence reason so that teachers are aware of the student's absence period and our nurses can follow the health department’s infectious disease requirements. NPS School Nurses are available should you have any questions.
