Parent-Teacher Conferences
After conferences, make sure you check out the book fair in the east gym. Also, stop by the STEM lab between 1:00-3:00 where you will find Dr. Lind providing a drop-in session for families to share thoughts and ideas that may help in our strategic planning for the district.
Before you leave, please look through the lost and found table by the office. We have collected a very big assortment of items over the last few months. Items left over after conferences will be donated to the EPIC Resale in the Spring.
Below are some helpful tips as you prepare for next week's conferences.
Before the conference
- Ask your child how she feels about school.
- Ask your child if there is anything that he wants you to talk about with his teacher.
- Tell your child that you and the teacher are meeting to help her.
- Make a list of topics that you want to talk about with the teacher.
- Prepare a list of questions such as:
1. What are my child's strongest and weakest subjects?
2. Does my child hand homework in on time?
3. Does my child participate in class?
4. Does my child seem happy at school?
5. What can I do at home to help?
During the conference
- Be on time (or early) for the meeting.
- End the meeting on time. Other parents will probably have a conference after yours.
- Relax and be yourself.
- Stay calm during the conference.
- Ask the most important questions first.
- If your child receives special services such as English classes, ask about your child's progress in those classes.
- Ask for explanations of anything you don't understand
- Ask your child's teacher for ways that you can help your child at home.
- Thank the teacher.
After the conference
- Talk about the conference with your child.
- Talk about the positive points, and be direct about problems.
- Tell your child about any plans you and the teacher created.
- Keep in touch with the teacher during the school year.
Former Millburn Family
It is with a heavy heart to pass along some unfortunate news. A former Millburn Family, the Edwards Family (Parents: Ken and Melissa; Children: Dillion, Brendan, Rowan, and Nedra) moved away from Millburn in 2018 to Texas. Last week, Melissa and Brendan lost their lives in a car accident. Brendan was a 6th grader at Mountain Valley Middle School in Canyon Lake, TX.
We know that many of you may know the family. Our social workers and psychologists are available for any student who is coping through this loss.
A meal train account has been set up for the family: https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/8y8g05
Reading Steps
Keep the momentum going!
Ecology Club- Grades 3rd-5th
Interested in being greener here at school? The Ecology Club meets in three sessions during the year to explore ‘eco’ problems through organic gardening, checking how we use resources, and making useful objects from garbage created in the building. You can be part of this change! Each session is $50. Club members will make handmade paper, grow plants in the green house, take care of an earthworm farm, and participate in an Earth Day project. We meet every Wednesday in the science lab except early dismissal Wednesdays.
To sign up for Ecology Club please go to https://store.millburn24.net/ Please click on Webstore and then select MES Ecology Club

Millburn WebStore/Outstanding Fees
The Millburn Webstore is available! Parents can now pay for activity fees, sports fees, and more! Simply go to store.millburn24.net to access the Millburn WebStore. In the Millburn Webstore, you will have the option to make payments with a credit card, bank account, or for some items, your child’s PushCoin Wallet. To add funds to your child’s PushCoin Wallet, go to www.pushcoin.com.
Please check your child’s PushCoin account weekly to view any fees your child may have incurred (e.g., lost library book, MBAC fees, lunch overages). If you have not created a PushCoin account for your child, please visit www.pushcoin.com, click "I don't have an account," and follow the prompts to set up your child's account. Once you’ve created a PushCoin account for your child(ren), you will receive monthly emails from PushCoin if your child has an outstanding fee balance. Note that low balance lunch reminders are no longer sent home with your child. However, you can set a low balance or negative balance notification through PushCoin. This will be sent to the email address you provide.
