Summer 2023

BHS News

Congratulations to the Class of 2023! We hope that your Journey as a Blue Devil has provided you many skills to help you succeed as you begin the next phase of your life.

Summer school is June 7th to July 14th, see below for details. Payment is required with application to attend. Courses are on a first come, first serve basis. Student enrollment is limited for teacher led classes in Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, ELA 9/10, Health and P.E. If course is full an online option will be offered.

Students attending Summer School will report to the Center Entrance, class lists, and room locations will be posted. Students need to bring their computers, notebook, and something to write with.

Reading is an essential skill to practice all year long! BHS will be participating in Summer Reading. We encourage all students to participate! Several courses at BHS have required reading over the summer. Summer reading options are listed below as well as reading requirements for honor ELA, AP Lang and AP LIT.

The 2023-2024 School Calendar is located on the District Webpage, please plan ahead!

Make it a great year!
Mr. Merrill

BHS 2023 Summer Reading

Dear Students and Families,

As a department, we believe in the importance of reading over the summer, but that summer reading is about choice and taking a moment to read for pleasure. ALL STUDENTS are encouraged to choose a single book from a list created for their appropriate grade level. The *pick your own book* option allows your student to choose a grade-appropriate book that will be of interest and challenge your student. Additionally, students enrolled in AP and Honors courses will have a required reading selection and assignment upon returning to school.

After reading the book, students can create a Google Slide incorporating the items on the sample template below. If students read the book, create the template, and turn it into the appropriate Google Classroom set up for their grade, they will be entered into a drawing for some pretty cool prizes like gift cards, parking passes, prom tickets and much more.

Happy reading!

BHS Parking Changes East Lot

Next school year, the construction process for the new high school will begin with school visioning, abatement and demolition of Towslee. This is an exciting time for our district, but it comes with some changes.

All phases of the construction project will directly impact student and staff parking. As a result, we are working throughout the summer to address potential parking conflicts. Unfortunately, VOFT will not be able to host their annual painted parking space fundraiser moving forward because of these changes. We are brainstorming other options for senior students and welcome any suggestions.

Vaccination Clinic- Tdap/Meningitis Required for Seniors

In collaboration with the Medina County Health Department, we will be hosting a vaccination clinic at Brunswick Middle School on Wednesday, August 9th, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM. Tdap and Meningitis vaccinations will be offered to students entering 7th and 12th grades for the 2023-2024 school year. In order to streamline the process, please pre-register by calling 330-723-9688 and select option 2.
