Leadership Message
Into the Wilderness-Moments of Pause
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” -Joshua 1:9
In our world today, there are rarely moments of silence. Most of the time, we are spinning at such an incredible pace that taking a moment to pray, breathe, reflect, or pause is unheard of. Yet, these are the moments that provide rich modeling for our children of how to cope with the worry, stress, and any problems that arise. Being able to show our students and children that all humans need the space and Grace to figure out ways to solve problems is essential for healthy developing minds, hearts, and bodes. Most importantly, these moments of pause and stillness allow us to listen to God. For Him to remind us that we are inherently loved and valued simply for being us. These moments of stillness allow God to work within us and through us; building our trust and faith in Him. Building our trust in ourselves that we can make it through hard things and challenging times.
Lent is a wonderful time to model for our kids these moments of space and Grace. A time of heading into the wilderness to pause and listen. Throughout the Bible, the wilderness is a place of preparation; it represents a space outside of the normal rhythms of life; a space of testing, trial, and transformation. It is not an easy place to be. The wilderness is a place of self-discovery – “The desert always waits, ready to let us know who we are”.
This week’s challenge: Take time to pause and pray; to listen to God’s voice to remind us that we are LOVED and VALUED and can handle challenges.
God Bless!

Tricky Tom the Leprechaun: Leprechaun Traps
Our students received a letter from Tricky Tom the Leprechaun this week at the Assembly. Tricky Tom challenged the students to build traps to try and catch a leprechaun. This will be a whole school project that will take place on March 15th. Students have worked this week to find partners in other grades to work with. Next week they will meet with the partners and plan their traps. Ask your child about this project and share in their enthusiasm!

Learning through Competencies
We are focusing on using the language and philosophies of learning through the competencies at Jean Vanier. Through competencies, students develop and connect key aspects of knowing, thinking and doing across a variety of learning contexts, both within and outside school. As students develop competencies through learner outcomes, they acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes that contribute to their success as lifelong learners and active citizens.
