St. Luke Weekly Memo
September 28, 2020
Leadership Message
During this past week I received many air hugs from students that made me smile and see the joy and the resilience in our students. While COVID has altered our daily routines the laughter, wonder and smiles ‘with are eyes’ are still shining through.
Thank-you to our staff who work each day ensuring that our students continue to grow and look for the silver lining. We all want to ensure our students feel the hope, joy and love in all that we do at St. Luke and that the smiles shine through.
Have a great week everyone!

Chalpin's Message - Mrs. Damur
Matthew 21:28-32
"We all had to clean our room as kids, but there are two types of kids. The ones who actually cleaned their rooms and the ones who just stuffed everything in a closet and hoped their mom or dad would not find it. If your parents were anything like mine, they always found the hiding spots. Even though they were frustrated, they would give me a second chance to make a good choice and clean up the right way.
Jesus explains the importance of obedience in the parable of the two sons. In this parable, a father tells his two sons to go out and work in the field. One of the sons says “no,” but eventually changes his mind and gets to work. The other son says “yes,” but never goes out to the field. Jesus asks His followers, “Which one of the two sons obeyed his father?”
Was it the one who said no but had a change of heart and obeyed or the one who initially said yes, but never followed through? God wants us to know that it is never too late to make the right decision. Just like the first son who told his father no but had a change of heart, even if we are sinners, we can still put our faith in God and choose to obey Him.
Living like the second son is dangerous. When we live obediently and righteously on the outside but are dishonest and deceitful on the inside, we are not obeying God. Our actions must match our words, even if it is tough. Making the right choices is not always easy, but God promises to guide and support us even when we struggle."
Reflection is taken from http://www.saddlebackkids.com/week-3-parable-of-the-two-sons/
Questions to think about:
Which of the sons do you most resemble?
What is a difficult choice you had to make recently?
Did you make the right choice?
How can you remind yourself to continue making the right choices and obey God?
PRAISE AND WORSHIP - Monday, September 28th
Orange Shirt Day - Wednesday, September 30th
Orange Shirt Day began in 2013 when Phyllis, a residential school survivor told her story of being at the St. Joseph Mission Residential School as a child. We call the students who attended the schools “survivors” because majority of those who attended experienced abuse, trauma, pain, sadness and shame during their time at the schools. Phyllis tells her story of losing her shirt, many stories are similar, some worse. September 30 was picked as the date because it is the time children had to leave their homes and return to the schools.
Orange Shirt Day is about honouring the survivors who continue to share their stories. It is also a day that we remember the survivors who unfortunately did not get a chance to share their experiences.
Orange Shirt Day is also an opportunity for First Nations, local governments, schools and community agencies to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come.
Please watch the short 3 minute video on the Williams Lake event and Phyllis’ story.

COVID
As a parent/guardian you are required to complete a daily health screening check for your child each day before they come to school. We need everyone's help and commitment to these health checks, as well as making sure that your child stays home if they are feeling unwell or displaying any symptoms. This is the most important measure we can all do to keep our school safe.
COVID-19 Symptoms. This document provides guidance on what to do if your child has symptoms. Please read and follow the protocols.
