Big picture
Our district's MAP testing window opens today, August 16th. We have a teacher training on Thursday, August 18th. Students will begin their MAP assessments in Math, Reading, and Science next week. During MAP testing, it;s important that every student gets plenty of rest, brings their charged Chromebook and charger each day, and does their very best on the tests.

These tests are important to their academic growth as they provide valuable data to help our teachers assess their learning levels and if interventions or enrichment activities are needed. MAP is a good predictor of STAAR success when a student does their very best on the assessments.

AVID COLLEGE DAY - AUGUST 17th

MEN AND LADIES OF HONOR STUDENT LEADERSHIP - AUGUST 17th 4:15 pm - 5:15 pm

August 18th - Meet the Teacher Night 5:15 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Schedule

Students will follow their daily schedule to transition to classes to meet their teacher. We will sound a bell at the beginning and end of each session. Many of our students attend the same classes on both days. However, if your student has a different teacher on A days than B days (for example 6th period is English but 13th period is Spanish), you may choose to visit any of those teachers during that time frame. Also, our teachers receive 45 minutes of conference time each day. That time can be used to meet with you individually for a virtual meeting, in-person meeting, or phone call. Simply email that teacher to schedule a 1-on-1 session during their conference times throughout the school year.

1st/8th period starts at 5:15 pm; ends at 5:28 pm

2nd/9th period starts at 5:31 pm; ends at 5:44 pm

3rd/10th period starts at 5:47; ends at 6:00 pm

5th/12th period starts at 6:03 pm; ends at 6:16 pm

6th/13th period starts at 6:20 pm; ends at 6:33 pm

7th/14th period starts at 6:36 pm; ends at 6:49 pm

AVID BINDERS

Starting Monday, August 22nd, we will begin the implementation of our AVID Binders. Every student must have an AVID binder. You can find all of the items needed for the AVID Binders in the school supply list posted on our website.

Our students will use the AVID Binder system to develop learners who can self-direct, self-evaluate, self-monitor, and self-advocate. ALL STUDENTS WILL BE REQUIRED to maintain their school binder following the AVID Binder model.

What is the AVID Binder?

The AVID Binder is a system for keeping essential school materials and class assignments organized into one binder. A proper AVID Binder contains all the "required items" from the school supply list. Below, you can watch a short video on How to Organize Your AVID Binder.

AVID binder checks will be conducted once a month in predetermined classes. Teachers leading the monthly AVID Binder checks will be looking for “Required Items” and overall organization. Please review the video so can help prepare your child at home for a successful binder check, and to learn more about AVID.

How can I support my child at home?

Regularly check your student's backpack and AVID Binder. All papers should be placed in binder rings in the proper class section. Remove unnecessary papers. Ensure all required materials are present. We encourage you to reference the video below.

What is AVID?

AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the achievement gap by preparing all students for college and other postsecondary opportunities. For more information about AVID, visit their website at avid.org.

Thank you for your partnership and support. If you have any questions about the AVID Binder, do not hesitate to contact us.
