Captain's Log
PASS CHRISTIAN PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT
AHOY, PIRATES!
It is a great time to be a Pirate! This week, the entire state learned that we have joined the 700 pt club as a school district. We now have 3 A schools with a fourth one in the works! This is the first time since 2013 that we have had 75% of our schools perform at this level. Congratulations to PCES for joining the ranks and for making marked improvements this past year! DES came through for our Pirate learners and delivered an A for the second time in a row! Last, but not least, our flagship, PCHS, continued to demonstrate its academic prowess by earning an A for the sixth straight year.
Our community could not enjoy the status without you; our students reaffirm that at every given chance. Look below to see what some of your peers are saying about why they are a Pirate Teacher.
With that, I submit the Captain’s Log. #2020vision #committedtoeXcellence #eXcellencemarksthespot cje
Announcements
From MDE_Dr. Nathan Oakley
On September 19, 2019, the State Board of Education (SBE) granted approval to begin the Administrative Procedures Act (APA) process to revise Miss. Admin. Code 7-3:36.4, State Board Policy Chapter 36, Rule 36.4: Assessments Required for Graduation. The proposed revision would eliminate the administration of the U. S. History End-of-Course (EOC) assessment effective with the 2020-2021 school year. U. S. History will remain as a required course for graduation. To review the APA notice please visit the Mississippi Department of Education APA webpage at https://www.mdek12.org/PN/APA.
Any member of the public may submit written comments to Dr. Jo Ann Malone, Office of Accreditation, 359 N. West Street, Post Office Box 771, Jackson, MS 39205-0771. Written comments may also be submitted by email to accreditation@mdek12.org.
We encourage you to share this information with students, parents, teachers, and other school administrators.
Please ensure all comments are specifically related to the elimination or continuation of the U. S. History (EOC) assessment and include the rationale for your position.
Please do not submit general comments related to statewide testing, graduation requirements, and/or the Mississippi Statewide Accountability System, as this proposed policy revision is only related to the administration of the U. S. History EOC assessment.
All public comments must be received in the Office of Accreditation no later than 5 p.m. on October 22, 2019. We anticipate comments will be presented to the SBE on November 7, 2019.

We are in need of facilitators for the upcoming PLN. Facilitators need not compile powerpoint presentations, etc. You may want to facilitate a conversation with your peers around a problem of practice, work on common paperwork, or plan together for an upcoming event. Please contact Mrs. Cooper or Mrs. Saucier for more information.
It's Pumpkin Time! It's Pumpkin Time!
There will be a pizza party after the unloading has been completed. For further information, please contact Coach Tim Ladner or Mrs. Leslie Leyser.
Calling all new to Pirate Nation as well as Pirate Pros! This is a community event that you do not want to miss. Participants get to meet and greet new friends, and neighbors. You also get an opportunity to work alongside our children outside the classroom. Plus, it is great eXercise.
