Jackson School News
March, 2018
Note from the Principal
Due to our space confinements and the unknown status of future visiting Chinese teachers, I have decided to discontinue the Confucius Institute at Jackson. Partnering with Confucius Institute, Hanban, PSU, and the College Board has been a wonderful experience for our students and staff over the last 4 years. I am grateful for all the learning and cultural exposure this opportunity has provided our students. I look forward to continuing a tradition of honoring cultures of all kinds here at Jackson!

Culture Night is coming June 4th. This is a parent-run, PTA-sponsored event and in it's 2nd year we are going to make it even better! The goal is to celebrate all of our families, histories, and cultures. We would love to have students bring posters, pictures, tri-fold boards, or memorabilia from their family history and culture. This may be from ancestors in Mexico, from a visit to England, or even from right here in Oregon! This is a completely optional family project open to all. Some apps the committee has recommended to help are Family Tree and Ancestry.com.
Volunteer Needed
We are looking for someone to help with the after school intervention support group.
Days: Tuesdays and Thursdays
Time:2:15 - 3:30
Dates: Starting March 13th through the end of May.
Email Sarah at cranesa@hsd.k12.or.us if this is something you could commit to.

Zones of Regulation
All the zones are ok, but some make it easier to learn:
- Blue - feeling slow to start or sad
- Green - feeling good to go
- Yellow - starting to feel dysregulated
- Red - feeling angry or upset
Classes will brainstorm calming strategies for getting to "green good to go," and we will also have universal strategies including:
- figure 8
- walk
- fidget
- break
For some classes, this is not new learning because teachers already use the zones. To learn more: http://www.zonesofregulation.com/index.html
