Meet Ashlyn
Dear Friends of Eagle Springs Elementary,
My name is Ashlyn Singleton and I will be attending third grade this year. I am very excited for a great school year! I look forward to seeing my friends and making new ones. My mom and dad want you to know that I am very unique. I was born with a rare condition called Achondroplasia. This causes me to be short in size because my bones grow at a slow rate. I am much smaller than my classmates, but I am a regular kid that can do anything anyone else can do. My parents tell me that no two people are the same and we should celebrate our differences. I’m just small, that’s all. If you would like to know more about my short stature, feel free to visit the Understanding Dwarfism website at www.udprogram.com.
Here are some facts my parents would like to share about Achondroplasia:
· Dwarfism occurs in all races and ethnicities.
· Over 80% of Little People are born to average height parents.
· It is very rare to have any type of mental impairment with dwarfism.
· People with dwarfism are Little People and should only be referred to by their name. The word “midget” is considered highly offensive as is any racial or ethic slur.
If you have any questions, my parents are open to answering them.
Thank you for taking the time to read about me and I look forward to seeing you at school!
Your schoolmate,
Ashlyn

Gold Fight Win
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Because we believe that TOGETHER we can find a cure for this awful disease, three LOCAL non profit organizations, Addi's Faith Foundation, L3 and Mother's Against Cancer have joined forces with Humble ISD to Go Gold!
Join us on Friday, September 13th at 7pm for the Atascocita VS Kingwood football game at Turner Stadium. Wear your GOLD and help us light up the stadium in honor of those children battling cancer. We encourage all of our ESE students to wear gold to school on Friday September 13.
GT Referral and Testing
GT Referral Window is August 26th - September 27th. During this time parents may refer a student by going to the Advanced Academics website.(https://www.humbleisd.net/Page/48458) All referrals will be online this year. Testing for 1st - 5th grade will take place on our campus during a window between September 30th - December 20th, 2019. The Building Selection Committee will determine placement in the G/T program by January 31, 2020. If you have any questions, please contact Elain Dabney, Extended Learning Teacher, at 281-641-3121 or elain.dabney@humbleisd.net. You may also go to Mrs. Dabney’s website for more information on testing and the assessment calendar.
All parents and students are invited to attend our "Community Connections" information seminars aimed at enhancing one's knowledge and awareness of key issues related to advanced academics and post-secondary preparation. We hope that you'll be able to join us!
